To My Best Friend's Family

Beautiful people making me smile.

To My Best Friend's Family
Kristine Flynn

When I became friends with my now-best friend, I would have never thought I would have gained the second family that I was blessed with. I knew I was making a lifelong friend, but I didn't know what their family was about to become to me.

To my second family,

Since the second we met, you welcomed me with open arms into one of the most loving families I have ever met. You automatically held a special place in my heart, where I would soon realize that you would stay forever.

I actually can't even say you are my second family, but instead a beautiful addition to my own family. You've given me memories I will cherish forever. I'll never forget those weeks in the summer I spent with you, sitting outside during the nighttime, telling stories and laughing, or even the advice you would give me in sticky situations. I know I will always be able to confide in you, and always trust your judgement. There aren't many families like you out there, not many people willing to be the kindhearted people that you are.

Thanks for giving me a hard time, joking with me, and keeping me on my toes. You've made me smile over the years, and I've found a sense of comfort in knowing that if I can't be around my family, I have you to come to. I've never been around a group of people who have made me feel at home even when I'm not.

I would like you to know, not a day goes by where you don't cross my mind. I always pray that you're happy and healthy, because even if I can't see you every day, I want to make sure I've held you in my heart.

Now that you're all in my life, my friendship with my best friend means more to me than it did before. Not only are you my friend, but you're someone I know will always have my back, just like my own family would. I think I would like to thank you the most for bringing me a lifetime full of laughs with your amazing family. Also, thank you for thinking I was special enough to be introduced to your family.

Over the years, we've watched each other grow and change. Even though life has not allowed us to see each other as much as we would like, that only makes the times we do even more special. I am one of the luckiest people in the world and I will thank you every day for meaning so much to me.

You make me feel a little more complete and a little more at home when I am with you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
