To my best friend who I am lucky enough to also call my boyfriend,
The first day we met neither one of us would have ever guessed that we would date in the future. We were just two very similar people that happened to be in the same spot at the same time. It is crazy to think that the small conversation we had, evolved into a friendship of a lifetime. While I considered you my best friend long before you were ever my boyfriend, I am thrilled to still be able to consider you my best friend even though you now are my boyfriend. I would not change it for the world that we became great friends long before we ever even considered dating. We had a connection unlike no other that sparked the creation of many unforgettable memories soon to come.
It was not long before we started hanging out and going on adventures that seemed like we were the only ones to find interesting. Everyone around us always could tell we were perfect for each other, but we always blew it off with we were “just friends”, even though we both knew there was something more. Being best friends allowed us to always be ourselves, and to see the real side of each other right from the start. We were able to appreciate and fall for the countless positive aspects about each other, as well as witness and learn to love each other’s perfect imperfections. We became close not only because we were attracted to each other, but mainly because we loved spending time together.
When we finally decided that we would take our special friendship that we built, and start to build a relationship, I did not get the usual racing heart or the butterflies in the pit of my stomach. Instead, I felt a warm relieved feeling and was ready to take on yet another journey with my best friend who I am also lucky enough to now call my boyfriend, by my side. The label was never needed in order for us to show our commitment to each other and our friendship, but it did add the final touch to our relationship that others envy. Our relationship still continues as it was before. Very little has changed since we put on the ‘dating’ label. You let me be me, and I let you be you. The only difference is now we can also experience being “us.” I think about it every day — how lucky I am to be with the guy who I once and always will consider my best friend. I can not wait to pursue even more adventures, which lead to breathtaking memories with you by my side.
