To my best friend,
We aren’t close in distance anymore, but we will always be close in heart. I will never forget the times we spent together and the adventures we took on together.
Do you remember the late nights you spent in my room? Or the times we traveled around our new city together?
What about when we first met? I thought you were weird, and you thought I was too. We ended up being a perfect pair.
Do you remember when you met my other friends and became part of the group? “Squad,” we call ourselves. I can’t think of a better way to describe it. You fit in perfectly right away.

I’ll never forget the day you told me you were leaving. My heart broke, and I couldn’t stop crying. I knew how much I would miss you and how hard it would be to see you leave. And believe me, it was. Helping you pack up the car that day felt like we were packing up all our memories and putting them away to be reopened at a later date.
And they were opened again. And we made more when I saw you next in the short months following. Even though some of our memories were scary, we still had so much fun. You showed me new things I was never exposed to before, and watched my reactions as I learned.
We keep in touch every day, and I swear we know everything about each other.
Please know that I never was angry at you for leaving. Confused? Sure. Upset? Of course. But never angry, never disappointed. I always knew you would end up right where you needed to be, and I guess I was right, huh?

I’m going to remind you of the advice I gave you then, because it is still so true. You have to be in charge of your own happiness. Not everyone is going to approve of what you do or what you love, but you have to go for it anyway. People are always going to make comments and say that you don’t know what you’re doing, but you do. You know what’s right for you. Never stop pushing for what you want. I know you can do it. I’ll always be your biggest fan, even when you feel that you have no one.
Look at you now. Going to a school you love, getting a degree in a subject you’re so in love with, and picking up the pieces. You just needed a fresh start.
I can’t even say thank you enough for the times that you helped me when I was in a terrible place, for welcoming me into your home and always treating me like family. I’m grateful for all the time I ever get to spend with you, and for the good times I will always remember. I’m a firm believer that people are placed into our lives for a reason, and I know there was a reason I was given you.
“It’s only a see you later until our next adventure.”
Love always,
Your best friend two states away
