One of the best times of the year to be in Scranton is in the spring. With so many trails to hit and things to do in the pleasant weather, you can't go wrong being here. Because there are so many things to do, listed out below are the top five places to go this spring.
1. Bike along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail
The Lackawanna River Heritage Trail is a trail that runs along the Lackawanna River and spans 70 miles throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. There are only a few places where you have to cross the road, making it mostly continuous. (It’s also great for long-boarding and skateboarding)
2. Have a Picnic at Nay Aug Park
Nay Aug Park has many pavilions where you can bring a bunch of friends and food to hang out and de-stress during midterms and finals. Once you run out of food, you can walk it off on the Davis Trail in the park.
3. Check out the Historic Scranton Iron Furnaces
The Iron Furnaces in Scranton are only a few blocks away from downtown and have plenty of space for you to bring a Frisbee and just hang out while also viewing a really cool historical spot.
4. Check out the Steamtown National Historic Site
The Steamtown National Historic Site offers train tours that take you through the Scranton area and also some tours of the old trains that they have in their station.
5. Take a trip around Lake Scranton
If you have a car, checking out Lake Scranton is definitely a worthwhile drive. Only about 15 minutes away from the University of Scranton, it has a trail that goes all the way around the lake and is 3.5 miles long. If you’re looking for a place to run, Lake Scranton is one of the top outdoor spots for it in Scranton.
