To My Best Friends

To those close and far, you all mean the world to me.

To My Best Friends

To my 2 best friends from home, I know college has sucked for everyone. I never expected to be going to opposite sides of the state, and I NEVER expected my best friend moving to a different state. I'm sorry if I've seemed distant from some of you. My life got busy, but I never forgot about either of you. I love both of you so much and you both have helped me over numerous years.

Thank you for sticking around during my awkward middle school years and growing up with me through high school. Thank you for picking me up after a guy broke my heart and I thought it was the end of the world. Thank you for bringing me food, for random best friend dates, for making me laugh when I wanted to cry, and especially thank you for being my shoulders to cry on when life got hard. Thank you for never giving up on me even though we're in two different places. Thank you both so much. Both of you would love my friends at college. Some of them have qualities that remind me of you. However, none of them could replace my two best friends, even if you guys are cheerleaders (JOKES).

To my new friends at college, you all saw me at a bad part in my life. You guys saw me cry more and fake happiness than anyone I know. However, thank you all for being there for me and giving me advice. I was blessed to be in a hall with such amazing people and I'm sad to see that the semester is almost over because next fall we're not living in the same building anymore. However, those friendships we established within the first month of school are ones that I will never lose. Whether it's being a NARP or laying around having deep conversations, we never have a dull moment.

Thank you for always giving me advice when I need it. I know I'm an ugly crier, but thank you for being there during arguments and making sure I was going to bed okay. Thank you for spontaneous trips to people's houses and meeting mom and dad. Thank you for supporting me in soccer and lacrosse. Thank you for the endless laughs and the random car rides in the jeep with the windows down. I'll be there for each and every one of you, and you all know who you are. I can't wait to see our lives after college, coming back together and reminiscing on the memories we're creating right now.

All in all, the friendships I made 10 years ago or 8 months ago mean the world to me. You all have kept me sane and on the right path in life. I know I'm a brat and annoying at times, but thank you for helping me become the person I am today and the person I will grow into. Texas sucks, Salisbury is far, and Meyran forever. I love you all!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
