Tips For Your First Week At College
  1. You may think you packed too much, but really you probably didn’t pack enough. Says the girl who forgot half of her clothes back home and has half a closet left of space.
  2. Meeting people isn’t very hard at all. Everyone is in the same boat you are and they all just want to make friends like you!
  3. Freshman 15 is no joke, and I already feel it coming after one day. Shoutout to Rob’s at the University of Akron. Really appreciate you adding to my BMI. (Body Mass Index)
  4. Don’t go to a crazy party the first few days. It’ll get busted and it’s better to just stay low-key and test the waters for a few days.
  5. Enjoy your time with your family when they move you in! Once they leave, you will feel so lost.
  6. Go to as many events as you can! Within the first few nights I went to a sorority gathering, a soccer game, event fair, and a festival in downtown Akron. Through those events, I was able to make connections and friends.
  7. Join clubs early on! It’s easiest to make friends that way, especially friends who have similar interests as you.
  8. Exploring campus is a must! It’s nice to feel familiar with your new home.
  9. Meet people on your floor. Living in a dorm is like living in a huge apartment with all of your closest friends. It’s so much fun being able to walk down the hall and have a movie night with new friends, order pizza to eat while chatting, and getting to know new people everyday.
  10. Enjoy it! It all flies by and before you know it you will be starting classes!

When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
