Summer. 3 months of no school, no responsibilities and not a worry in the world… If you're lucky.
But for many of us, summer means balancing a part-time job, summer classes, and family get-togethers. Not to mention that summer bucket list of concerts and camping trips we simply HAVE to go to.
With so much going on it can be difficult to keep everything straight, so here are a few tips to help you get through these summer months with ease.
Do not throw away that planner.
There's a reason our school planners contain the months of May through August. Use Them. Write in all of your important dates, work and class schedules. That way, you can look ahead each week and know exactly what you have coming up.
Give your boss your availability ASAP.
Now that you've written down the dates of your family reunion, the race you have coming up at the end of the month and the Justin Bieber concert in June, give a copy to your boss. This way they know in advance when you can and cannot work and you will have a better chance of getting off rather than scrambling to get your shifts covered the week of.
Make sacrifices.
Chances are, you are just not going to be able to do it all. We are only human after all. If you can't stay out late with your friends one night because you know you have to get that run in during the morning or because you work a long shift the next day, THAT'S OK. It's a long 3 months, there will be plenty of other opportunities.
Get up and get your day started.
When you don't have to wake up early for class all of the time anymore, it can be tempting to turn your alarm off and sleep into your little heart's desire. Resist the urge. Set that alarm, throw back your covers, make a cup of coffee and take advantage of the beautiful summer mornings you've been given. It's amazing how much you can get accomplished even with just those few extra hours each day.
And lastly, don't stress out too much.
Despite your busy schedule, it is important to make time for a little R&R. If you're like me, that means getting lost in a good book down in the park. Maybe for you it's going on a bike ride or just laying out at the beach. Whatever relaxing looks like to you, make sure you get around to it. After all, they call it summer BREAK for a reason.
Good luck & happy summer living, my friends.
