This weekend, my sorority had a mixer with a fraternity where we were able to relive our childhood. Needless to say it was one of the best mixer themes ever. Here are a few things I learned you need to have or are good ideas for the best childhood themes party, sleepover or mixer.
1. Buy Capri Sun.
For some reason this was the one thing everyone in my sorority wanted. The juice packs were gone within the first 15 minutes, so make sure you buy a ton. Not only do they taste good, but it is hilarious to watch everyone try to pock a hole in the juice pouches.
2. Themed gummies are a must.
Gummies with Squidwards faces on them….enough said.
3. Get some food where you can tattoo your tongue.
Because we can never have enough food and like to have fun. Fruit rollups with the tattoos were the staple treat during Elementary school lunches. Tattoos on your tongue=awesome
4. Get a deck of cards
Nothing brings back memories of childhood camp than sitting by a pool deck with a pack of sticky waterproof cards and playing war. You might not always be able to recreate the pool and sticky cards, but with a pack of cards you can always play war or banana split.
5. Supply the party with other kid games
Personally, I am a fan of "Guess Who?" but there are plenty of childhood games that are fun to play. Not only is it great to be extra competitive, but who doesn’t want to play games from elementary school indoor recess?
6. Buy appropriate decorations.
In my opinion, college parties really don’t have decorations, unless it's themed. Part of being a kid was having the best birthday party theme with the best cake. Going into an aisle in party city was awesome, so for your party, relive this and go buy Frozen plates and decorations.
7. Lots of sugar!
Yes we are back to food now, but as we learn in children’s literature, kids love food. Back when we were actually kids, parents forbid lots of sugary food, but now they aren’t there to stop you so buy all the sugary snacks.
8. Check what shows are on Netflix before your party
No childhood themed party would be complete without childhood TV. As my friends and I discovered, Netflix is very limited on some of their throwback kid selections. If you do want to watch TV check Netflix first or try to find your older favorite show somewhere else.
9. Determine what age you want to be transported back to
There is a big difference between reliving being 5 or reliving being 10. Either way you are going to have a fun party, but make sure you know what you are aiming for before the party.
10. Music, music, and more music
Throwback music from the 90s and 2000s is awesome, enough said.
