Gingerbread cookies! Hot cocoa! Candy canes! Oh, my! There is way too many tempting treats that can throw you off your health game during the holiday season, but have no fear, I am here…to help you to stay true to your diet, of course! Here are a few tips I use to keep myself on track when the treats are out looking extra tasty:
Follow Health and Nutrition Accounts
Okay, this seems pretty lame, but in all honesty, I follow a ton of health and nutrition social media accounts to keep me motivated. Not only are these accounts posting images and quotes that get you amped about your workouts and daily routine, they also post pictures of delicious and nutritious treats to get your mind off the sugary candies. Another awesome thing about following these accounts is that you can share or re-tweet them! You can be helping a fellow follower or Facebook friend out by just sharing a simple message or picture.
Pinterest, duh!
Ladies, most of you have a Pinterest, and if you don’t, I certainly recommend getting one! That goes for men, too! Pinterest is a great way to stay healthy and motivated! I usually go on Pinterest to look up clothes, sorority gift ideas, room décor, and well, recipes! Just type in the words “healthy recipes” in the search bar, and you’ve got a multifarious selection to choose from! Okay, yeah; there are delicious and healthy recipes on Pinterest, but what really gets me going is my newsfeed with the eclectic images. You may be wondering, “That sounds silly! Why?” Well, it’s because looking at high-end fashion trends, elegant room décor, and sorority gifts makes me want to…well, as my big from my sorority always says, “Get my life together.” It makes me want to work hard and dedicate my time to get stuff done so I can earn these lavish things!
Post-It Notes
When I was younger and wanted to lose weight, I would stick inspirational post-it notes around my room, so when I woke in the morning I knew I couldn’t let myself down by cheating in a few cookies or bags of chips into my meal plan. Every time I walked into my room, I would see a note and get inspired. Some would have simple messages like, “Just do it” or “drop and give me 10” and others would have quotes from my favorite athletes or singers…maybe even my mom or dad. Whatever got me to believe in myself, that’s what I scribbled onto a multi-colored sticky square and dispersed them throughout my room. Hey, putting a few in the kitchen won’t hurt either!
Simple: workout!
Fuzzy socks, PJ pants, and big, furry sweaters is what paradise feels like during the wintry months, but that comfortable, lounge attire can wait until after you hit the gym! I’m a summer baby, that’s for sure, and winter is just not the season for me; however, I know I have to work out to stay in shape and release those bottled-up endorphins. So, I throw on the warmest pair of athletic clothes and hike to get my, pardon my French, tush to the gym. Yeah, the preparation seems ridiculous and regrettable at the time, but once you see the results, you will know it was well worth the battle.
Lean Routine
In order to keep up with the fitness, you must create a daily routine to keep yourself organized. For me, I always make lists! I make sure each point is alphabetized and structured into their separate categories. You might be asking, “But Frankie, lists aren’t what keep you in shape, ya know?” Okay, maybe they don’t physically, but again, like the Pinterest idea, it motivates you to do work. Once you complete one of those little bullet points, get out the florescent highlighter and cross off the task. It feels so good to whip out the yellow marker and swipe it across a finished line. It’s like setting mini-goals for yourself and accomplishing them! Nothing feels better than that, especially if there’s a whole list!
If you’re struggling to maintain your target weight goal, just follow these few tips, and you’ll be on your way to a healthy and happy holiday season.
