There are only a few weeks left until the new year, and that means we're going to be making New Year’s resolutions. We'll probably make the same resolutions we did last year because we weren’t able to complete them this past year. I know, personally, I always have one set in mind, like working out more. I do it for a month and then I lose all hope. But here are some tips to keep your resolutions through the next year.
Focus on one resolution only.
Sometimes, we have so many hopes for the up coming year, you just don't know where to start. If you stick to one, you can focus solely on that one goal you have.
Be realistic.
Sometimes we have goals that may take longer than a single year to complete. Don't make your goal so unattainable that you end up not completing it.
Be specific.
When you have a specific goal in mind, it makes the goal attainable. When they're broad, like “I want to eat healthier,” or “I want to save money,” it doesn't give you a date to accomplish something. If you say, "I want to lose 10 pounds by Easter," it's much more attainable.
Have a support system.
Being able to talk about your resolution with friends and family can give you the motivation that you need to carry on. Also, there's a chance that someone will join you with the same resolution.
Mess up once in a while.
Changing is hard work, so don't be too hard on yourself if you mess up. It's OK once in a while, because you're only human. So don't give up on yourself.
Take time to reflect.
Taking time to reflect on the goal you're trying to reach and how it will help you.
Keep a record.
Make sure you take time to write down your goals, and check them off as you complete them. There's a good feeling about checking something off and writing it down. It's a good accomplishment feeling.
Reward yourself.
For every little goal that you accomplish, make sure you give yourself a reward for taking such a big step in wanting to change your life.
