Congratulations, you have made it to the last few weeks of school which means you have just entered a whole world of stress.
However, it does not have to be as stressful as you think and can actually go a lot smoother than you think as long as you take care of your mind and body. Here are some tips to keep you calm and alive during these last few weeks of school.
1. Plan ahead. Do not allow assignments to sneak up on you. The best way to avoid feeling overwhelmed is to allow yourself time to get things done in a timely and orderly fashion without being rushed. Even if your argument is “I work best under pressure” You have to remember that finals pressure is no ordinary pressure.
Waiting until the last minute is ineffective when you have 6 other assignments to do last minute as well. Plus, it allows you to enjoy all of the end of semester parties and events guilt free because you have an organized plan for all of your assignments.
2. Work less. You would never know how much easier it is to get assignments done without being pressed for time between shifts and class.
I mean you could try and get some studying done during break but by the time your shift ends the last thing that you would want to do is go back to your dorm and crack open a book for a few hours.
Just let your bosses know that it is time for finals and if they do not lighten up on your hours they are going to have to deal with a pretty distracted worker.
3. Switch your snack choice. It is so easy to fall into the habits around the time of finals. One of the biggest habits formed is not eating full meals and snacking on a lot of junk food.
This has more of an effect on our bodies than you think. The more junk food intake we have the more our bodies respond with constant fatigue, something we definitely do no not need right now.
So trade those bad habits for good ones. Make sure you are getting full meals in every day, well-balanced meals and snack for the better. This means no chips and candy, but more fruits and veggies!
4. Try yoga and meditation. Taking time out for yourself is very important, especially in times where getting overwhelmed is a huge possibility.
Taking just 20 minutes out of your busy schedule to do some stretches can really be useful for the body and mind and allow you to feel more relaxed and is a great way to keep calm.
Or even take some time out to meditate. Taking the time to lock your door, turn off your phone and electronics to just be at peace with silence. When the world around you is loud, full of assignments deadlines and projects just 20 minutes of silence for yourself is a good restart button for your mind and body.
5. Drink plenty of water. Keep yourself hydrated without sugary drinks. The water will keep you feeling fresh and provide you with natural energy so that you make it through your long days a lot easier.
The last few weeks of school can be very stressful but if you remember to take care of yourself in the process there is no doubt that you can get through it with all of your sanity.
Good Luck!
