In the winter, all we dream about is the wonders of summer. But once it's here, we all regret such dreams. Don't fear, you can still enjoy your summer paradise with these survival tricks.

1. Water

Carry water with you everywhere. Stop to drink water at every water fountain. Even splash some water on your neck while you're at the fountain. Accept every drink of water given to you. Even drink water variants, such as flavored water, sparkling water, and juice. I'm not kidding. WATER IS YOUR LIFE SOURCE.

2. Clothing

Wear the right clothing. There is no need to expose all your skin. Sunburns are real and you want to prevent them. Instead, think thin, soft materials. Cotton will become your best friend. Skirts and sundresses are great breathable options for the girls. For the guys, I've heard that swim trunks are best. They are light, made for the heat, and dry quickly from the rain.

3. Footwear

Nothing is worse than blisters. So even if it seems contrary to do so, wear socks. They can be ankle socks or, even better, slip-on socks. It just depends if you are wearing sneakers, flats, crocs, heels, etc. If you wear sandals makes sure they have a cloth kind of texture. If they are those plastic flips flops, your skin will peel off. I repeat, PEEL-OFF. No fun! To prevent weird tans lines, change up your footwear on the daily. Unless you like having a funky tan line. That's all on you.

4. Shade

Whether it's standing under a tree or taking refuge in your local grocery store, finding shade is a must. In more dryer places this makes a huge difference. But even in humid areas, the shade can be a way to not feel like you are literally being consumed by fire. To create your own shade: use an umbrella or wear a hat.

5. Sunglasses

Protect your eyes. You know how sometimes you can see puddles on the road but then they disappear. Yeah, those are the suns rays that your seeing. You can see the HEAT. So to keep your eyes still in business, carry around a pair of sunglasses. If they have a cool tint, you can even see la vie en rose.

6. Moisturize

Wear deodorant. It prevents rashes and excessive sweating. Lotion, aloe vera, and sunscreen: use them!! If you don't, you will be like a roasted chicken. There is a reason we cook our food in heat! Don't be a roasted chicken!!

7. Hair

Work that up-do! Whether you sport a man bun or a girly ponytail, just keep that hair away from your neck. Who wants slimy tentacles clinging to their neck? No one!

8. Travel

Giphy

If you are on foot, this is a biggie. The fewer things you have to carry, the less effort you are exerting. Hence, don't take everything with you wherever you go. Just bring the essentials.

9. Attitude

Having the right attitude is the most important element to surviving a ridiculously hot summer. It is going to be hot. Just accept it and move on. Soak in that vitamin D and love every second of it! Because once the summer is gone, you are going to miss it.

Now you are ready to enjoy your summer paradise to its fullest. Have fun! And stay cool!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
