Every person has their bad days. I know I've had my fair share of them. Whenever I'm having a bad day, all I want to do is lay in bed and binge watch "Orange Is the New Black." But staying in bed does nothing to make me feel better. Sure, it helps me get some time alone and that boosts my mood a little bit, but I didn't get anything done. I can always listen to Piper's persistent whining for an hour before bedtime. It's always better to get up and do a few things that will help make you feel refreshed and ready to take on the day than sit and sulk.
1. Clean your room.
Make your bed, organize your desk, and pick up anything on your floor. When I have a clean room, it helps my head feel clean too.
2. Open your curtains and windows.
Fresh air and natural light can do wonders for your mood, in my experience. It can also help regulate your sleep and appetite.
3. Take a shower or have a bath.
This will help you feel refreshed. If you want to feel more relaxed, take a hot bath. If you want to feel more clean, take a hot shower.
4. Put on clean clothes.
Don't spend all day in your pajamas and put the dirty clothes in the wash.
5. Get out of your room.
Do something in the kitchen or living room or even just go for a walk around the block.
6. Stretch.
You know that feeling you get when you rub your eyes and you see those little stars on the inside of your eyelids? Stretching is like that for your entire body.
7. Drink a glass of water.
And keep one near you as well. Staying hydrated is important.
8. Get the hard and important tasks out of the way.
On bad days, running out of energy early on in the day is common. Try to get all the important things done while you have the energy. It will help you feel a little bit better knowing you have it all done.
9. Have some comfort food.
It's all right to eat something you like, but make sure that you have some fruits and vegetables, too. If you don't like plain fruit, try making a smoothie!
10. Set some goals.
It doesn't matter how big or small they are (i.e. having three meals a day, planning to do something you enjoy) or if they are daily or weekly, but achieving goals will make you feel like you are accomplishing something (because you are!).
11. Remember that it is OK to have bad days.
Every one has bad days every once and a while, some people more than others, and that is completely OK! Don't give up on the little things because you've had a bad day. You will feel so good knowing that you were able to get through it and still accomplish something!
