Lin Manuel Miranda took a huge risk when he created Hamilton. He didn't just go for an average musical. He went for a historic rap, and luckily for all of us, it paid off.
Part of the reason this musical did so well is the incredibly witty dialogue, as well as the incredibly well-composed raps. To demonstrate
1. "My dog speaks more eloquently than thee, But strangely your mange is the same"
Alexander is never without a witty retort, as seen in "Farmer Refuted."
2. "Sit down John, you FAT MOTHER FUCKER"
"The Adams Administration" is a song right in the middle of the inciting incidents of Hamilton's political career... But the politics take a backseat to some sick burns.
3. "You've married an Icarus, he has flown to close to the sun."
"Burn" actually isn't from Hamilton, it's from his wife... But she also has some serious sass. But, in her defense, Hamilton deserved it.
4. "Jefferson has beliefs, Burr has none"
Now, this one takes some understanding... But basically, Hamilton is a straight up savage! This quote hails from "The Election of 1800."
5. "Welcome to the present, we're running a real nation, would you like to join us? Or stay mellow doing whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello??"
"Cabinet Battle 1" is the start of a beautiful enemy-ship between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, and as a result is filled with some very salty lines.
6. "Yeah, keep ranting, we know who's really doing the planting."
See #5.
7. "Madison you mad as a hatter, so take your medicine."
I'll just leave this here...
8. "Damn, you in worse shape than the national debt is in"
Once again, "Cabinet Battle #1."
9. "Sittin there useless as two shits. Hey! Turn around, bend over, I'll show you where my shoe fits"
I'll let you guess this one... But seriously, Lin fit in a lot of solid burns here. Some didn't get mentioned because I felt bad having so many in this, but definitely, check it out.
10. "If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?"
"Aaron Burr, Sir." is one of the first songs in the musical, and Lin Manuel strives to set the scene with the beginning of Hamilton and Burr's love-hate relationship.
11. "Smells like new money, dresses like fake royalty. Desperate to rise above his station. Everything he does betrays the ideals of our nation"
A quote from "Cabinet Battle #2" showing us once again, that Thomas and Alexander are super not friends. Jefferson desperately wants Hamilton to fail, but Hamilton has his secret weapon... The President.
