It Is Time To Be Yourself

Be yourself, love yourself, and just own who you are.

It Is Time To Be Yourself
Jay Desai

This has been a huge year for me based on growth. If anything, I learned a lot about myself, as people say you do while you are in college. And if there is one thing to take away from these college years, it is that it is okay to just be yourself.

Embrace every category.

If you are anything like me, you probably thought you knew who you are, but are now finding out that there is so much to learn about yourself still. And as you discover those parts of you, they get filed into different categories. Maybe an "I LOVE This" category, a "Maybe This Should Stay Away Until I'm 25" category, and of course the "Ugh. I Hate This About Myself" category.

It is the "I Hate This" category that gets the best of us. The thought that comes into our heads when we look in the mirror or realize we are the only person in our friend group that loves something we thought was not that outrageous. But in all reality, it is our flaws and the weirdness in our personality that contribute to who we are. So learn to embrace it, and don't hide who you are from the world.

Stay opinionated.

Then there's the fact that social media is taking over our lives, and so are everyone else's opinions. It's tiring hearing the same opinions over and over again because people are scared to speak out. The rest of Earth's population is always going to surround us, so get comfy.

Do not shy away from how you feel. Don't shy away even if your politics don't align with the what seems like 80 percent of the world who speak or if you agree with something going on in pop culture that others think is insane. I love the Kardashian family, and I will shout it to the rooftops, because even though most people give me a look of disgust, it is what I love and who I am to love them. You are ENTITLED to your opinions. They are what you think and how you feel. So don't be intimidated by others and support yourself.

Break social constructs with self-love.

Finally, social constructs cannot dictate your life. Everyone is born in their own skin, body shape, and unique characteristics. It is impossible to fit the mold that our beauty industry has thrust upon us. We cannot fall for the marketing techniques of the world, but instead should fall for ourselves.

Go out natural instead of using 10 different concealers to cover that pimple. We've all been there, it's fine. Own up to the fact that you are not a size two because of the way you were meant to be, and be proud of your healthy 6. If the whole world looked the same, life would be boring and there would be nothing beautiful to look at.

It is not too late to make 2018 your year. So be yourself, love yourself, and own who you are.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
