Why Does Time Fly By Fast?

Time Flies By Quickly
Megan Jo Koons

How do you see time? Do you see it as an important factor in your life? Or do you take it for granted? Have you noticed that every day seems to go by or go slow at time? One day may go slow for you and the next may be faster than the last. Either way, time passes by on its own.

I believe time goes by fast, whether it feels like it or not. In fact, I remember starting my senior year in high school and I remember getting accepted to Hanover College in the fall. I remember fall becoming winter, finals then Christmas, then to Easter, then to end of the year final exams. And in no time, it was time for my graduation ceremony. I remember the day well, when I walked up the stage after my name was called to the stage.

I remember shaking the superintendent's hand in congratulations, then watching my 2016 classmates graduate with me. Afterwards summer had come. Summer consisted of being at home with my mother and spending as much time with her before beginning classes at Hanover. Before I noticed, my sisters were called to school a month before the move-in day at Hanover. The thought of me going off to college became more of a reality each and every day, preparing everything I needed for college.

As move-in day approached, my parents and I cherished our time together more and more the day I moved in. As it was time for them to leave and me to stay, I began to get melancholy. In an instant, I missed the summer days at home with my mother and my sisters. I missed the time I had with my family before going to college. I missed my friends from school and my teammates. I never thought college would arrive this quickly. We are in the week of midterms filled with exams and midterm papers with Fall Break arriving late this week.

As I thought about time to manage with my work, I thought about how time passes by so quickly every day. It seems like Ihad just moved in yesterday and now I am about to take my midterm exams in my courses. Every day I seem to think it was going to be a long day, but before I realize, it is the end of the day where I get to relax or do my studies for the next day. I haven't paid much attention to it lately, but now I see every day is passing like a breeze. Each day is gone before I realize it is.

I miss how time used to be slow it seemed. Now time has become an essential part of my life, managing it and how you use it is very important. Do not waste time on things you do not enjoy doing. Manage your time spending time with other things like your family, friends, and everything else you love to do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
