Sometimes life hits you with things that are not easy to handle, and it's so easy to get discouraged. You will probably find yourself saying "why me?" or "this isn't fair", and I am constantly guilty of this. Any change in life or any struggle usually isn't taken with a smile.
Each and every one of us fall short of God's grace each day, but I feel that a battle many of us face is our unwillingness to put our trust in His plan. We want it our way and on our time schedule, and we don't even take a step back to see what God has in store for us.
When mishaps, let downs, and tragedies happen, I usually stupidly decide to grab the reigns myself and steer my life where I want it to go, but this usually ends in some type of crash. I'm aware that God is able to lead me where I need to be, but yet I try to take the road alone.
A few days ago I turned on my radio and a song was playing that caught my attention, and I stopped in my tracks. It's a song called Thy Will by Hillary Scott, and it's about letting go of your troubles and letting God handle it instead. It really got to me and honestly it made me ugly cry (like ugly). But on a serious note, this song shed so much light on me.
The chorus of the song repeats "Thy will be done" over and over, and this is a phrase that I have used constantly over the years when in church or saying the Lord's Prayer. But I have never had a true connection with these words until I truly understood what they meant.
Thy will be done means His will be done, not my will, not your will, and not our will, but His alone. He has things handled, if only we listen to Him. It may seem like all you're being faced with is pain right now, and you may even question God's goodness, but I promise that the plans He is making for you are better than any you could plan for yourself. Because it is not our will, it's Thy will be done.
So I have started to use this phrase constantly. When things get tough, God's got it handled because it's Thy will be done. When I'm pushed to my limits, I know God has a purpose behind it because it's Thy will be done. When I'm really craving a McFlurry but McDonalds says their ice cream machine is down, I know it's Thy will be done (hahaha ok that one was a joke, but for real, God is probably like "no, go eat some lettuce").
The Lord is good at all times, and we may not see the good that He sees in some situations, but if we put our trust in Him, He will show us the good. We just have to be willing to put our trust in His plans for us, and not try to control it on our own. It's His will be done, not ours.
