The Oklahoma City Thunder, despite having the 2016-2017 MVP Russell Westbrook were eliminated in the first round of the 2016-2017 playoffs by the Houston Rockets. To make the team better the General Manger Sam Presti gave Thunder fans hope with the arrival of four time NBA-All Star Paul George and 10 time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. These two players were brought to the team not only for supporting Westbrook but also to help bring a championship to Oklahoma, but after 15 games into the season the Thunder are so far in the ninth seed out of 15 in the Western Conference. While to some it seems good, most seem to see it as a horrible start, three All-Stars in one team, yet they can't seem to be in the top five in the NBA.
One reason why the Thunder seem to be struggling to gain any momentum is the 'Big Three,' Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony. The three of them are not bad in any way but trying to integrate to complement each other is a problem for the team. According to an Sportskeeda article Anthony and George are not considered to be spot up shooters which Westbrook played with last season, they need the ball in their hands to score or make plays.
An article for ESPN explains that Westbrook has tried to make a clear adjustment, using far fewer possessions and pulling back to let his fellow All Stars make plays "This is a new year, new team." said Russell Westbrook, last season the team relied heavily on Westbrook now with two stars he'll need to adjust his game. While the team is currently struggling Thunder fans shouldn't be worried just yet, Paul George said "I understand what my role is and where I can be aggressive and where I can be helpful igniting our offense. It's just, everything is starting to come together."
Generally super teams like the Thunder are right now started really slow, the 2010-2011 Miami Heat is a example. The Organization brought LeBron James and Chris Bosh together and help Dwayne Wade to help win championships. At first they didn't seem to start off well but as the season wore on they became one of the top teams in the game during that time and almost won the championship against the 2011 Dallas Mavericks, the next two seasons they were crowned as the champs. OKC are most likely heading the same direction as them.
The season is still young and they have plenty of time to adjust to their game. If they can figure out a way to play together with positive results then they might be able to take on the NBA's best; The Golden State Warriors.
