As the semester is wrapping up, the weather is getting warmer and the work load seems to be increasing. Stress and procrastination are kicking in more than they have all year. Remember the good old days when your biggest worry was whether you should wear your pink Aeropostale shirt to the school dance or the blue one to impress your crush? How times have changed. Here are some songs to bring you back to a better time:
1. "Beautiful Soul"~Jesse McCartney
Jesse's beautiful voice along with his adorable good looks made this such a jam back in the day and it still remains a classic. Jesse, you still have a beautiful soul (and face).
2. "I Want Candy"~Aaron Carter
Embarrassingly, when I was six, I kissed my Aaron Carter CD cover. I loved him and this song a little too much. I freaked out when he sang this song on Lizzie McGuire. I wanted to be Hilary Duff so badly. It was one of the best moments of my young life. A few years ago, he followed me on Twitter, and my six year old self fan-girled so hard. And then he unfollowed me. That hurt, Aaron.
3. "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)"~Backstreet Boys
This song brings back so many memories of jumping up and down on the bed and pretending that I was at a Backstreet Boys concert. Unfortunately, that never happened, and I probably ruined my bed. This song is where my love for boy-bands started.
4. "Nobody's Perfect"~Hannah Montana
A bit of a later throwback, but none the less, one of the best. This song is the perfect song to listen to when I feel like the stress of college has gotten the best of me. Thanks Hannah for the great advice.
5. "Just Keep Breathing"~We The Kings
Another song that gives some great advice for the stressed out college student. When they came to perform at my school last year, it was like I had gone back to my middle school days and forgot about all of the things I had to do.
6. "Be a Star"~Life Size
"The Barbie Doll Movie" as young me used to say, I have watched it at least 100 times. (@tyra I'm still really hoping for that sequel). This song will automatically put you in a good mood and remind you that you are, indeed, a star.
7. "What Dreams Are Made Of"~Lizzie McGuire Movie
Another time where I was extremely jealous of Hilary Duff. I mean, her life was basically what dreams are made of. I blame this movie for my high expectations of going to Europe on a school trip. And I will forever ship Lizzie and Gordo.
8. "SOS"~Jonas Brothers
A throwback list would be incomplete without the JoBros. SOS is what I feel like calling out as I continue to drown in homework. I listen to Nick and Joe's new music and I always come back to that wonderful first album. It was truly killer. (PS I would like to personally take this time to apologize to the Jonas Brothers for saying that they were ugly, loud, and untalented when I saw them open for Aly & AJ, who opened for the Cheetah Girls. I was young and didn't know any better.)
9. "Nothing's Wrong With Me"~Pixel Perfect
As one of my all time favorite Disney movies, this had to be on the list. My goal as a child was to be Loretta Modern. I look at this song as the prequel to "Nobody's Perfect". I love watching clips from this movie and seeing how much technology has changed since it came out. Wow.
10. "Together We Can"~The Cheetah Girls
Back when this came out, you and your girls always picked a different Cheetah to be. You had jam sessions singing into your hairbrushes after school, wearing every cheetah print item you could find. As you and your girls now prepare for the end of the semester, this a great song to help you realize you can make it through with each other's help.
11. "Oops!...I Did It Again"~Britney Spears
As a significant part of all of our childhoods, Britney kept coming out with hit after hit. There are so many great songs to choose from. You'll probably break a couple of hearts in college, so let Britney help you get through it. I vividly remember the look on my mom's face when I would walk around the house saying "I'm not that innocent". Whoops. Sorry mom.
12. "Crank That (Soulja Boy)"~Soulja Boy
You still remember the dance? Of course you do. You'd be lying to yourself if you didn't run out to the dance floor when this song came on at the middle school dance. It was the dance.
13. "Leave (Get Out)"~JoJo
This is the song I imagine the library workers want to sing to me and all of the other people studying in the library till 1 a.m. basically every night. I hate to tell you, but it is only going to get worse as finals week gets scarily close. Britney will help you get through the hearts you've broken and JoJo will help you get through your own broken heart.
14. "Complicated"~Avril Lavigne
A song I would like to sing to my professors after every exam. Like really though, why is everything so complicated? But from Avril's point of view, everyone is trying to be somebody new in college and it makes them difficult to understand, but you'll figure it all out in the end.
15. "Survivor"~Destiny's Child
Although all of the work you have to do for the rest of semester is looming over you like a dark cloud, you will survive. You will make it out a survivor and receive a much needed summer vacation as a reward for making it through. With the help of Beyonce and the girls, you can make it through anything.
You're going to need a playlist to listen to when you need a break during the rest of the semester. Here's a playlist of all of these songs to help you out.
Let the songs of yesterday help you get through your current stressful moments. Good luck!
