For many years now, Khaled Hosseini, a renowned author, has been an absolute inspiration to me and much of the world. His works such as The Kite Runner, And the Mountains Echoed, and A Thousand Splendid Suns brought to light beautiful themes and perspectives which were relatable to a wide audience, regardless of their social demographics. Here are some beautiful quotes taken from these three works that have been very inspirational to me, along with my take on them:
“It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime...” -The Kite Runner
I think we have all experienced something like this. Whether it is a good or bad change, change is inevitable, and it can often change your perspective or future that you had planned earlier. Failing a course, not getting into the school you wanted, losing a loved one, and/or many other momentous events can change the course of a whole lifetime. Just remember this, though: change doesn't always have to be bad.
“I suspect the truth is that we are waiting, all of us, against insurmountable odds, for something extraordinary to happen to us.” -And The Mountains Echoed
And yet, when something bad or unexpected happens, when our trust gets broken and our feelings get hurt, we still have that ounce of hope, that light in our souls, that is just waiting for the justice and beauty that we all deserve.
“For you, a thousand times over” -The Kite Runner
This may be said to someone you love or to something that you are passionate about. Someone or something that you would never give up on or leave behind. Someone or something that helps you grow and brings beauty out of you. Someone or something that is unique and pure.
“Behind every trial and sorrow that He makes us shoulder, God has a reason.” -A Thousand Splendid Suns
Whether you believe in a higher power or not is not the point of this quote, according to me. I firmly believe that whether or not there is a higher power, there is a reason why we all go through the things that we do. There is a reason why some people come in and out of our lives, a reason why things just work out the way they do. So if someone is going through a tough time, whether or not they believe that God has a plan for us, I hope that they do believe that everything will pan out eventually. If we could just stay as positive as possible during our trials and think of the good things in our lives at that moment, it'd be a much bigger learning experience.
