5 Thoughts Everyone Has While Packing for Vacation

It's finally summer, and what does that mean? Vacation time! I personally love going on vacation in the summer. It's a nice time to relax and to reset before going back into the hustle and bustle of day to day life. As a student in college, I spend most of my summer working to save money for the next school year. So getting to go on vacation, is actually time to relax and chill.

When you finally get to your vacation destination you finally get to relax and enjoy yourself but beforehand its time to pack. Packing is probably the worst part about going on vacation. There's so much to pack and who wants to forget their favorite swimsuit or flip flops? No me! Here are several thoughts I had while packing for my trip to Florida:

1. When should I start packing

For some reason, this question is always really hard for me to answer. Part of me wants to pack super early and get it all out of the way. While the more logical part understands that I need to hold off or I'm going to end up living out of a suitcase while I'm still at home. There is this really hard to find a sweet spot for packing. Based on how long your trip is I would suggest starting packing no more than three days beforehand.

2. What should I wear?

Based on where you are going on vacation this may be an easy answer. Although if you are doing a two destination vacation you might want to check the weather for both places. Especially if they are in differed states or elevations. No one wants to be freezing in the mountains in the morning because you forgot a sweatshirt.

3. Can makeup go in my carry-on?

As a girl that loves to wear make-up putting my makeup into checked luggage seems like a nightmare waiting to happen. But on the other hand, I don't want TSA to try to throw away my make-up. The good news is that you can take make-up in your carry-on. Although you need to be mindful of how large the liquids are to follow regulations. Also, you can bring powdered make-up such as an eyeshadows pallet but it may have to go under screening if it is too big.

4. Shoes???

Clothes are super easy to pack. Shoes, on the other hand, are a little bit more tricky. Some shoes are big and bulky and will take but quite a bit of space in your suitcase. So if you want to maximize your suitcase real-estate, it is important to pick out your shoes wisely. Try to go with shoes that will match with several outfits, and if you're headed to the beach don't forget your flip flops!

5. What am I going to do on the plane?

Boredom can set in quick on a long plane ride, or even on a long car ride. Make sure you bring something along to entertain yourself. You could pack a book, download lots of music, or you can event download episodes onto your phone from the Netflix app so you can watch them without Wi-fi or internet access.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
