At least we're all in it together

Thoughts a Sorority Girl Has During Work Week

If you’re in a sorority, you know what work week is... and if you’re not, here’s what it is: it’s the week before school when you and all your sisters come to the house everyday and prepare for recruitment. The hours vary for each chapter, but nonetheless, it is always a long day. And although work week tests your patience (and sanity) at times--for both the actives practicing and the actives directing everything--it is a bonding experience for you and all your sisters, and should be taken seriously.

  1. I should’ve thought of a really good excuse to get out of this
  2. But I didn’t, and I’m here, so I’ll just have to grin and bear it
  3. Alright, first day. Here we go
  4. They’re demonstrating the songs
  5. Oh god, I don’t think I can sing those
  6. If I sing really quietly, maybe no one will hear how bad I am
  7. I can sing most of it, but some parts I just forget every time for some reason
  8. We’re learning how to snap
  9. Got it. Nip to hip...that’s not too bad to remember
  10. This actually hurts my hands after a while
  11. And now you can barely hear my snaps
  12. I also am not confident in walking down these stairs
  13. I’d put money on me tripping and falling down the stairs during recruitment
  14. Stairs are hard sometimes, OK
  15. Well, it’ll have to do
  16. Okay, we’re starting to learn how to step
  17. I thought I knew how to step, but I guess not
  18. Yep, this is actually harder than you’d expect stepping to be
  19. I don’t know how to be in sync with everyone else
  20. I’m also bad at this whole snapping, singing and stepping in sync deal
  21. It is so flippin hot right now
  22. I think I’m gonna pass out
  23. Two run-throughs down, eight more to go
  24. Also known as one hour down, five to go
  25. Okay, I just have to make it to the lunch break
  26. I am STARVING
  27. If we all do really well this run-through, it is lunch time
  28. Please god, let everyone do their best
  29. SUCCESS
  30. *Goes to lunch and stuffs face like a starved animal*
  31. Alright, back and refreshed, ready to be my best srat self
  32. Doin the same thing as before
  33. Now we have to announce the PNMs. Great
  34. I’m definitely gonna stutter or say the wrong name
  35. Oh, I didn’t speak loud enough?
  36. That’s embarrassing. My bad
  37. Okay, nailed it my second time
  38. Yeah, I got this
  39. It’s so awkward to be speaking this loud, but oh well
  40. Annnnd we’re back to the singing
  41. We low-key sound like a cult...singing on a loop
  42. But at least the songs are cute
  43. I just don’t have them memorized, and I feel like that’s bad
  44. Just smile and move your mouth and hope you don’t get called out
  45. Wow that, sun is really beating down
  46. Suck it up. They’re getting mad because everyone’s slacking
  47. *towards the end of the practice* Actually, we sound pretty good
  48. Oh hey, our stepping/snapping/singing game is actually strong now
  49. Guess practice paid off after all, but I am exhausted
  50. I do not want to do this for another day

Overall, work week is really fun and you just have to roll with it. It’s long and you get annoyed, but it’s something every sorority girl has to go through. So make the most of it, and good luck during recruitment everyone!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
