Swiss Army Man, in a word is weird. However, I am open to any movie that Daniel Radcliffe is in because I am a huge Harry Potter fan. So I decided to give this movie a shot. It looked interested to say the least. I enjoy watching new movies, that introduce new concepts, so I figured I had nothing to lose.
This movie isn't just weird. It starts out with a guy named Hank (Paul Dano) who is clearly a nut job, who seems to be lost in the wilderness, but lo and behold a body washes to shore to help Hank cope with his life and to help him venture back to civilization. Manny, the dead guy, turns out to be just what Hank needs to get his life back on track...kind of.
Manny, full of gas, is able to give Hank a ride across the body of water and back towards town, where Hank tried to escape from. Along their adventures, Hank uses Manny to help start camp fires, fight off bears, and ride him around when necessary. Manny, against all odds starts to come back to life, so Hank helps Manny to be alive again.
The closer they come to civilization the more information that Hank realizes and remembers about his life. The cell phone that Hank has houses pictures on it of a young lady, this girl is a product of Hank's stalking tendencies, but he doesn't grasp that reality until towards the end, when he meets her face-to-face and she has no clue who he is or why he would even have pictures of her on his phone.
Hank, believed that Manny had special powers to help reconnect him to this young lady. Once reality hit Hank, he realized that she was just a product of his desire to be accepted. Since Hank had been bullied and cast aside from the town's people, he lost hisself in daydreams of her. When Manny came along to help him on his life's journey he believes that Manny has the power to make him a better person.
This movie, ended up being pretty good. Without telling too much, Hank and Manny make a great pair. Their adventures turn crazy and stay crazy through out the movie. You will laugh, you will question why you're watching this movie, but at the end you will think to yourself or out loud that maybe it wasn't a complete waste of time. Actually, you might think this is a pretty good flick.
