Thoughts On My First Semester Of Sophomore Year

Was this semester stressful? Let me think hard and long for this one, the answer is yes. This was my first semester as a Sophomore for college and everything from tests to papers came at me like a train wreck. The time management was immense and to continue studying throughout the day was detrimental with the lack of sleep I was getting. Sleep is a big factor whether you are trying to take a walk outside or do a paper. It will determine whether your body can handle that stress and pressure at that certain period of time or just crash and fall asleep involuntarily. My freshman year was stressful during the second semester, but the first semester just caught me off guard because of my laziness and what I thought college would be. My sophomore year taught me so much from what time management can really do to the quality of work you are offering to what you can do when relaxing from all the tests you've taken. People love to say as the years go on college, just continue to get harder and harder, but you yourself have to fight through the work that is getting thrown at you.

The more work that was thrown at me, I worked harder and harder till I got the grade I wanted. As my major is Psychology, PSY 280 (Statistics) was a requirement and it was not difficult until I got to a certain point in the semester where laziness snuck up on me. It challenged me mentally and emotionally of what I can do and had the ability to do. Sophomore year is not easy and sometimes it can all depend on your major or what work each professor hands to you. Each professor has a different teaching style and the amount of work given; Some professors will give students a ten-page paper to write at the end of the semester and some will give a three-page reflection paper. Professors vary and sometimes the class itself will just require that amount of work for you as a student to gain that amount of knowledge for one semester. My second semester of the sophomore year probably would not be as bad, due to the fewer credits I am taking, but it will still be a battle I have to fight.

College sometimes is a battle, but can even be a war. Not everytime you will receive a 90 on an exam or paper, but timing and peers to help you through it are what matters. Self-motivation may be present, but sometimes a little bit more is needed from others to help you get through such rough times of work handed to you. Sophomore year has taught me one crucial thing in my life and that is: Study, study, study, but not only study understand what you are studying and you can push through it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
