Whether you love it or hate it, Homecoming happens every year. We spend a full week working to build a large float that we strut down to the Square and ultimately burn to the ground. It's the best of times and also the worst of times. The countless hours spent at the float site are a time where you truly get to bond with members of both your own and other organizations, which makes for a good time in the end. Despite all the hype we all have about homecoming, we all have certain thoughts throughout the week that make us question our true love for the week. These are those thoughts.
1. When the first day begins and you arrive at the float site.
2. When you're a freshmen (or a boy) and you realize you've been pomping wrong.
3. When you spend all your time at the float site and realize how many people haven't shown up once.
4. When your fingers are raw from pomping.
5. Feeling like a boss after one whole section of the float is completed.
6. After your 20-minute phone break.
7. When you're hungry but can't leave the float site.
8. "Who saw the sun rise this morning?"
9. When you finally complete all your float hours.
10. Walking to the Square proud of the float like:
11. Watching your hard work get recognized at Big Red's Roar.
12. When the week is finally over.
There you have it: Homecoming in a nutshell. A few months after it's all over, you'll sometimes miss the all the fun you had, but during the actual week, you'll be questioning your existence and wondering how you survived this last year. Happy Homecoming!
