So I started watching The Bachelor tonight for the first time in my 19 years of existence. Many of my friends have been watching this show since they were able to understand what was going on, but I have remained resilient in having never watched it. But tonight, I caved with my friends and watched it. What an experience it is to watch this show.
"The Bachelor," in it's 20th season, features Ben Higgins, a previous contestant who placed third in his season. Ben at first looks like the all around sweetheart. He gives every girl the attention that she deserves and even gives it to those are who are crazy (Lace). When Amanda tells Ben that she has two kids, and it's apparent that she is apprehensive to tell him, yet he embraces this news that she shares with him and tells her how important afamily is to him. Even though this might just be for the camera, he still acknowledged her honesty. This of course is what helps everyone get behind Ben and his search for "the one."
This show is something else, let me tell you. Halfway through the show (which is two hours long- yes, two hours) I started to wonder where they found some of these girls. Some of them are just absolutely crazy, and I'm not exaggerating. One girl in particular, Lace, had to remind everyone that she wasn't crazy. And if that doesn't scream craaaazy then I don't know what does. Most of the girls are your boring run of the mill, blonde, tan, thin and well educated but doesn't act like it girl, while others have a back story. One girl is even from a previous season! This is parallel to pretty much every other find-my-soulmate reality show.
Not only are the girls unoriginal, but at the end of every episode, Ben gives the girls he wants to continue, a rose, and at the end there are three girls left, and one rose. (gasp) This is the part that kills me. It's week two, and he has to decide one girls fate on the show. I'm honestly surprised he knows all of their names at this point, I've yet to figure them all out in the last two hours. In this episode it's a little different, (spoiler alert) one girl decides that all of this is ridiculous and that she doesn't want to be there anymore, so instead of accepting her rose, she peaces out. Probably something I would do honestly. The whole process is wild.
I wish I could say that I enjoyed "The Bachelor," but it made my brain hurt. How could these women stand spending what they believe is quality time with Ben, then he goes and spends quality time with another girl right after you, and a girl that you have to live with. I don't know about everyone else, but when it comes to someone I could potentially have feelings for, I do not like to share, so kudos to those girls being able to not strangle the girl who "steals" Ben away from their special time.
I didn't enjoy "The Bachelor," yet I agreed to watch it again this week...I guess this is what it does to you. Send help.
