7 Thoughts All College Freshmen Have While Dorm-Shopping
SoulFeed

With freshman year getting closer and closer, college students are fervently shopping for supplies for their dorm rooms. From bedding to decor, we want it all.

And if you’re moving 700 miles away from home like I am, you truly do want it all.

So here are a few thoughts I had (and I think many of us incoming freshman have) at some point during the shopping process.

(By the way, if you haven’t started shopping for your dorm yet because you start school inSeptember, be prepared to experience these):

1. So many possibilities!

I’m going to be on my own for a year so I may as well stock up. Plus, if my roommate needs anything she won’t have to worry about going to the store in the middle of finals week.

2. *Buys enough Ramen to last a lifetime*

Enough said.

3. I need a new wardrobe.

Whether you live in Texas and are going to school in New York or you live in Alaska and are going to school in California, one of the rather annoying things about preparing for college is preparing for the weather. Thank goodness for back to school sales though.

4. *Watches all the dorm hauls on YouTube*

What better way to get inspiration for your dorm-shopping trip than by watching what others before you have bought? The amount of college hauls that exist on the internet is INSANE, and a lot of times YouTubers will recommend things you haven’t even thought of. It’s definitely worth your while to check them out.

5. It has to match!

I don’t care if it’s something as small as a bath rug—it has to match everything else in the room. Comforters must match pillows which must match the hangars which must match the bath caddy. Oh, and if my side of the room is drenched in red my roommate’s side better not be sporting a clashing color, like purple.

6. I am going to be a DIY queen.

For me, I hit the point at the beginning of the summer when I wanted to DIY everything that would be in my dorm room, from desk organizer to tie-dye tapestries. There’s something about making everything yourself that adds a feeling of not only authenticity but also satisfaction that you didn’t waste $100 on decor.

7. On second thought, maybe I should just get the Value Pak.

While you're Pinterest board is very inspirational, it's all too complicated and you only have a few more weeks. May as well order everything from your college's ridiculously priced dorm shopping catalog.

Thinking about college gives me all kinds of emotions—the anticipation of meeting new people, the fear of being myself in a completely new environment, the fatigue of getting all my health forms in.

But planning for and decorating your dorm room is the one thing that you can control during this hectic process. So who cares if you splurge a little on wall decals or cute planners?

OKI take that back, your parents will probably care...but isn’t this all part of the experience?

Enjoy the shopping trips and the time spent with family because it will all come to an end pretty soon. It’s certainly not a bad thing to be the person who wants everything a certain way. After all, from here on out, you are in charge of your own life.

...Except when your bank account gets locked after your 20th trip to Target.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
