Thoughts On Becoming Vegetarian
Nature's Garden Expression Blog

In August of 2015, I decided to go down the path of becoming a vegetarian. Yes, I had seen the gory slaughter house documentary. Yes, I saw the little videos about animals tasting freedom after they were saved from going down the line. I had always had a passion for animals, and after watching enough videos, I thought I would try becoming vegetarian. My best friend, Audrey, has been vegetarian since I've known her, and she never complained about it. My dad tried it, and said it was difficult. I've known people who had tried, but then went back to eating meat.

I want to stress that if you eat meat and enjoy eating meat, that's awesome. I won't put someone down for eating meat...I was there too. I loved meat. So keep doing you if you're eating meat and love it more than anything. I'll agree with you that it is delicious. This is for people who are the border of wanting to become vegetarian but don't know a solid way, or want to know more!

After deciding that I wanted to become vegetarian, I wanted to set myself up for success. I started by having one day a week where I didn't eat meat. I increased those days after every month. It was gradual, and before I realized, I naturally stopped eating meat. I wasn't making a conscious decision anymore about it, it just flowed. Now, I'm slowly weening off being a pescatarian, because I still love sushi. For the most part, I'm 100% vegetarian. But, I'm debating on letting myself eat fish one day a month.

I think there is an assumptions that all vegetarians eat are leafy greens. Yesterday, I made myself a Tofurky/Vegan Cheese sandwich, and it was DELICIOUS. The Tofurky was peppered, and tasted super similarly to regular turkey. Tonight, I'm planning on making myself a black bean burger. You can mix up your food as much as someone who eats meat. There are plenty of options that use tofu instead of meat, and I can attest that a lot of these products taste similar to their meat counterparts.

This has transitioned from what I was eating to what beauty products I'm using. I'm trying to transition all my make up products to cruelty free. It is actually pretty easy to find make up and shower stuff that is cruelty free. If you need recommendations for anything, just comment down below!

If you take your time, be gentle with yourself, and have a solid reason for wanting to become vegetarian, rest assured that it isn't insanely difficult to do! There are a lot more benefits to becoming vegetarian than you think. Even doing meatless Monday's every so often is great!

Have fun! xo

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
