Spring Break: the break shown in movies as the time of your life, spent on some beach somewhere, full of endless partying. For those of you who got to experience that break, I applaud you. For the others and those yet to experience spring break, I hate to burst your bubble, but spring break is quite the opposite. These are the many thoughts and emotions that cross your mind as you enter the major relaxation period of spring break.
1. How much Netflix is too much Netflix?
After you've finished your 37th episode of "Grey's Anatomy" over break, you begin to ponder this question. After you have been sitting on the coach for six hours straight and haven't even gotten up to go to the bathroom, you begin to question if you've gone too far. After you have become so emotionally attached to Mark Sloan that you're convinced you'll find a person just like him in the real world, you may ask yourself if you should stop. The answer is always no; Netflix away spring breakers.
2. I just ate a whole bag of Cheetos, should I go to the gym?
Along with great Netflix-ing come great snacking. It's OK, we've all been there. Coming home to endless food from Mom and Dad is as great as Christmas morning. Dining halls don't fully appreciate the art of snacking. They don't have potato chips and white cheddar popcorn at our disposal, so coming home to a cupboard of all the snacks your heart could desire is quite the rush. After consuming about ten times the suggested serving size, you might ponder going to the gym. This isn't your most terrible idea. The gym during spring break is much less crowded. All the high schoolers are in school during the day, so no need to fear their judgey cliques.
3. I've spent more time with my dog than humans.
The world doesn't take a break during spring break, so it's common to be alone. The parents are at work and the younger siblings are at school, so naturally you should take this time to have some quality bonding with your four-legged friend. The endless cuddling is practically the same as having a boyfriend that follows you around 24/7. They can also be used as a great source of exercise if you're still worried about the previous thought; take them for a walk or run.
4. I just had human contact with someone other than my family and I've never been more happy.
Who knew being asked to dinner by a friend could be so exciting. It's always great getting to catch up with your high school friends that stayed local -- I bet they appreciate you being home, too. After human contact, you don't feel like as much a hermit as you did before. You're making progress. Congrats!
5. So this is what "the other side" is like
By the other side, I mean other colleges. Many take spring break as an opportunity to go visit their friends or check out the night life of the college you lived by for years, but never visited. It's always awesome getting to see how much fun your friends are having at their colleges. I never knew that Binghamton University was super lit until now!
As much fun as it was sitting in my house alone, pigging out, watching countless hours of Netflix, and talking to my dog was, I'm glad to be back at Bonas.
