It's time to whip out those iPod shuffles and rewind back to the years 2007-2009. For me, those were my middle school years. (Well, technically 2006-2009, but you get the picture.) The beginning of seventh grade is when I fell head over heels crazy for this boy, and he had become my first full-on crush. Of course, junior high is like the perfect time to document those first adolescent memories with music that you listened to. My headphones were pretty much glued to my ears. Back then, I listened to a lot of Paramore, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, The Maine, Boys Like Girls, and along with plenty of others. This is my personal list of songs that reminded me of that one guy I crushed on super hard.Bring on the nostalgia, the braces, the bad hair, terrible makeup, and pure awkwardness.
Crush Crush

Crush - Paramore
Basically listened to this song on repeat the summer of 2008. I cannot say anything more except that I loved this song so much. Hailey Williams was me. I was Hailey Williams.

No Air - Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks
My friends and I were obsessed with this song. I listened to it every single day while dancing in my bedroom with the hairbrush propped as a microphone. The whole bit, in the dramatic effect you're picturing. For some reason, singing these songs made me feel like the guy I really liked would notice me.

Untouched - The Veronicas
From (Revenge is Sweeter) Than You Ever Were, to Popular, Take Me On The Floor and This Is How It Feels, the two Australian pop punk singers supplied me with an amazing outlet. All of their songs basically summed up my feelings towards my first crush, and I would listen to them, hoping that someday he would like me back. *The feels*

Forever - Chris Brown
"It's YOU. and ME. Moving at the speed of light into ETERNITTTYYY, yeahhhh". Does anyone else remember how popular this song was back in - was it 2007 or 2008? Either way, it's a damn good, catchy song. I remember hearing this song repeatedly at all of those awkward middle school dances, where all the girls would stand on one side of the gym, and the boys of the other. This song was playing when my crush hugged me for the first time ever at a dance. *gasps!* Oh, the good old days.

Teardrops On My Guitar - Taylor Swift
Because of course this had to be on the list. Honestly, I can go back to the days where I would lay in bed, wishing and hoping that he would notice me. At the time, he had an off and on girlfriend, and I was insanely jealous. I convinced myself that I was in love with him - and I mean hopelessly in love - and I couldn't live without him liking me back. This song was one of my main anthems. It was super lame, but that's how it went. Like, c'mon, I was thirteen!

Thunder - Boys Like Girls
Summer of 2008, this song was my anthem for all those warm nights where my feelings towards him grew even stronger.

Into Your Arms - The Maine
That one song that reminds you of your crush every time you listen to it...

See You Again - Miley Cyrus
If there is a song that I listened to a ridiculously amount of times, it would be this song. This song was my anthem from seventh grade, hands down. It would give me some sort of confidence booster before seeing the guy that I liked, because let me tell you - I liked him a lot, and I was always nervous every time I was around him. This song brought me back to who I could be - and to redeem myself after awkwardly stumbling over my words. And obviously, I couldn't wait to see him again.

When I Look At You - Miley Cyrus
Have you heard this song? It's so romantic.

Knock You Down - Keri Hilson feat. Kanye West and Neyo
My feelings for him kind of took me by surprise, and this song in particular resonated with me because it was about feeling this awesome overwhelming emotion of liking someone a lot. Before thirteen, I hadn't liked anybody that much.

Paramore - Misery Business
*Secretly wanting his girlfriend to get out of the picture because I'm way better than her and he is meant to be with me*

Paramore - The Only Exception
The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory for any lovesick girl.

Anything by My Chemical Romance

It was between 2007 and 2008 that I really got into this band, mainly because my first crush was a huge fan of MCR. I bought their Black Parade album and listened to it religiously. It reminded me of him, and I ended up memorizing all of the songs so he and I could talk about them. And so I could impress him, of course.

Shake It - Metro Station
You couldn't not like this song - it just wasn't possible! Everyone who was thirteen and had a crush liked this song, and that was that.

21 Guns - Green Day

I think some of these songs reminded me of my first crush not only because of the message of the song or the meaning of the lyrics, but because they were the kind of genre that he listed to. I wanted to like what he liked, and I was so head over heels for him that I wanted to explore the same interests as him. Green Day was one of those bands, and the song 21 Guns was one of his favorite songs at the time.

Kiss Kiss - Chris Brown
This is on the list because again, it was played like everywhere, all the time.

7 Things - Miley Cyrus
Ahh, remember Miley Cyrus circa 2008 when she was more "clean cut" and "edgy"? Seems like forever ago. I remember when this song was insanely popular and overplayed on the radio, inspiring many, many pre-teen/teenage girls. Miley Cyrus totally understood me in the relationship department.

The Great Escape - Boys Like Girls
Boys Like Girls was one of the most played bands on my iPod, and basically, all of their songs defined my feelings towards this guy. Well, all of the sappy love songs anyway.

Good Girls Go Bad - Cobra Starship
I have no idea why this song reminded me of my crush, but it did. Maybe it's because he was more of a bad boy, and that's kind of what this song ensues.

My Love - Justin Timberlake
Because it's Justin Timberlake declaring his feelings for someone.

Umbrella - Rihanna

"You can stand under my umbrella ella, ella, ay, ay, ay," This was pretty much how I felt towards my first crush, more or less.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
