To me, a cousin is one of the greatest gifts life has to offer. They're like built-in best friends from birth, and that's a special bond to have. This is an open letter to my cousins, (and cousin spouses) but if you have cousins, you'll definitely be able to relate to this yourself.
Thank you for being who you’ve all been in my life. From growing up, I’ve had people to look up to, even if you’re younger than I am. To all of my cousins; I look up to you no matter how old or young you are. You’ve each taught me something new about life and that’s something I will never take for granted.
Thank you for making family events fun. Without you guys there, I would have no one to laugh with, talk to, and make stupid jokes with. Times would be dull and boring without you there to fill the void.
Thank you for making me laugh, countless times. I know my cousins are some of the funniest people in the entire world, and each inside joke or movie quote never fails to make me laugh.
Thank you for teaching me what you already know. There’s been countless times where I’ve gone to my cousins for some advice, and they always know what to say, because they had been through it themselves. Without the long talks and the advice I needed to hear, who knows where I’d be.
Thank you for always having my back. I know that in anything I do, you’ll be there to support me and cheer me on, as we all do for each other, and that’s something I find very special.
Thank you for being the brothers and sisters I never had. This may be hard for others to relate to, but I’m an only child, so having my cousins growing up is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. Without them filling the brother/sister void in my life, I know things would be a whole lot different from this end.
Thank you for being there. Thank you for caring. Thank you for help shaping me into the person I am today. I’m lucky and blessed to be as close to my cousins as I am, and I’m thankful that I have found best friends in every single one of them. So, thank you, cousins, for everything and more.
