This One's For The Girls

The scared, the worried, the lonely, and everyone else

This One's For The Girls

As girls, we are constantly under pressure to do our best, look our best -- the list goes on and on. We don’t need a panel of critics to tell us when we’re not good enough since most of us are hard enough on ourselves without one. After a while those voices in our head get old. So, as Martina McBride would say, this one’s for the girls.

1. For the girl who wishes she could change something about herself.

You are exactly the way you are for a reason. Quit focusing on the things that you wish you could change about yourself, and focus on the things that make you, you! It’s those little imperfections -- maybe a beauty mark or chubby cheeks -- that make us who we are. Nobody can take that away.

2. For the girl who feels like she isn’t appreciated.

You are. I’m guilty of it myself -- receiving gifts, or having something done for me, and forgetting to say thank you when it’s due. Nothing you do goes unnoticed.

3. For the girl who feels like she’s never good enough.

Newsflash: you are more than good enough. And to whomever doesn’t realize this about you -- it’s ultimately their loss, not yours. There is such a thing as second best, but you, my girl, are far from that.

4. For the girl who feels like she isn’t loved.

Actually, you are loved more than you could ever imagine. You’re loved by the one who truly did hang the moon, and that love will always satisfy.

5. For the girl who’s searching.

Whether it’s for happiness, love, or even a job, stop. Do you ever notice how when you go shopping for something specific, you won’t find it, and you usually leave every store empty handed? Yet when you go in just looking, you find everything! The same concept applies to your life. Don’t have tunnel vision; don't narrow your search to specifics. Be open to any and every possibility that may come your way.

6. For the girl who’s scared about her future.

Live for today. Tomorrow, next week, and even next year already have enough worries and problems. Take life day by day, and see where that takes you.

7. For the girl who feels like her world is crashing down.

This is not the end of the world as you know it. No matter what is consuming your attention right now, whether it be a break-up, an argument, or an episode of "Grey’s," chances are it won’t even cross your mind a year from now.

8. For the girl who feels like she’s in this alone.

Take a look around. We’re all fighting our own battles, yet most of ours are similar. And we’re all going to be okay. It’s okay to be scared, but it’s not okay to let this fear control our minds.

9. For the girl who feels like giving up.

You are as good as gold the way you are. You are appreciated. You are enough. You are loved. Backspace that search bar, and instead browse all. Slow your life down. It’s not the end of the world. And don't give up because I promise -- you are not in this alone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
