This Is Not The America We Need

I cannot breathe at times and it honestly scares the living crap out of me....

Okay, not to start off in a rude or aggressive way, but let's get some things straight before I dive into what I need to say. Don't assume that I'm a Democrat or a Republican because I'm not about to deal with the bias foolishness that's been going on for the longest time. My political stance shouldn't matter with what I have to say. Also for a point of clarification, I respect the decision and stances of others so this will not be a bashing of one side. Let's dive in with the fact that I am flat out exhausted and embarrassed about what our society has been doing lately. We claim to be a country of diversity but some people find it necessary/appropriate to ridicule anything and everything that is different than them. Let just say this so the people in the back of the room can hear this, your hypocrisy is showing and it's quite disgusting, if we're being honest. Ouch, bet that stung a little for some people. We have allowed an election to place brother against brother, where we keep dragging each other into the mud. I cannot breathe at times and it honestly scares the living crap out of me because I feel my stomach turn in knots from both disgust and anxiety. Our society has grown so full of bigotry and exclusivity that we don't care what lines we cross to get at the opposition. Some of you are probably thinking that this is an exaggeration and that people are being too soft about stuff but these kinds of things are not appropriate what so ever and make me tear up from frustration:

Let's discuss the situations that were shown above, when I initially read the these messages my jaw dropped from utter shock and disappointment on how low our society has dropped to such a level of lack of consideration that saying these kinds of things to someone is seen as okay but responding back to discriminators is seen as being "too overdramatic". I'm appalled by how people think that discriminating against someone's background is ultimate diss but it actually just makes you look like an ignorant child. If automatically assuming that deportation is associated with Mexicans wasn't sickening enough, assuming that all immigrants to this country all reside from the same place is absolutely embarrassing for you but also completely insensitive to all cultures involved because it shows your lack of respect for different than you. It may seem like we as a society keep falling deeper and deeper into this pit of arrogance but we can change all of this for the better. Nelson Mandela said it best when he stated,

" Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"

Education is the step we must take to ensure that we become a country united instead of a country divided because as it is best said "United We Stand Divided We Fall". We play a part in the course that our country decides to take with its future and if it falls we will be the ones to blame for it. Our society is not completely lost to the afflictions of division yet, many people with differing views are loving each other enough to "agree to disagree."

When I saw this tweet above I was inspired and motivated that this change can and will be done by our society because people like the person above realize that this issue is bigger than ourselves. They are loving, willing, and strong enough to not let political differences tear friendships apart. We sometimes let our emotions take control of our actions and that is where we are likely to mess up. The wisdom and maturity of this group of people is something that many people in our society, including myself, can take notes and learn from. I would like to praise these people for being a light to others around them in this dark world that we live in.

If you take anything away from this, I hope that it's that you recognize that there is a problem in our society right now and we must take action to fix it. We are currently on a slippery slope to causing our own destruction. Education and Love are two aspects that will truly make our country great again not trying to prove who is right and wrong by acting like children. Let's change our world for the better because this isn't only about the present but for the future generations to come.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
