'Tis the season for ugly Christmas sweaters, hot chocolate, piles of presents, family vacations, and, of course, finals. While we should all be in the library studying every second of every day, we all know that is not a reality. Some of us are easily distracted, some of us just need a break here and there, and some of us simply haven't started studying yet. Here are 10 things that you're probably doing instead of studying for finals.
1. Pretending that you have a lot of time left to study.
Nah, it's totally fine. I have three days to prepare which is 259,200 whole seconds. One could say that I'm practically swimming in time!
2. Eating hour-long meals instead of going to the library.
You can't focus on an empty stomach!
3. Repeatedly checking all forms of social media.
I wonder what new filters they have on Snapchat today.
4. Suddenly finding the time to call your parents back.
"Hi, Mom. I'm just taking a quick break. Been studying all day. Haven't left the library in hours. So much work. Haven't procrastinated at all. Just wrote four papers. Skipped dinner to work. I'm on a roll. I'm not lying. How are you? How is Dad? How is home? Did you get that leaky faucet fixed?"
5. Online holiday gift shopping for anyone and everyone that you've ever met.
I wonder what Great Aunt Carol wants this year!
6. Making meticulous to-do lists of all the things that you could be doing but aren't.
Making this list has made me feel productive enough. Time to nap.
7. Suddenly finding time to do all of the things that you've been avoiding.
I'm going to organize my room, do my laundry, go to the gym, take a shower, fold my clothes, clean the windows, and pick up that Pop Tart crumb that has been smashed into the carpet since the first week of school.
8. Calculating the grades that you'd need to get on your finals in order to get A's in each of your courses.
So all I need is a 350 percent on this last exam. That seems doable!
9. Questioning your current major.
Why is Netflix not listed under potential majors?
10. Realizing that you're okay and this will all work out.
Somehow, someway, you'll be fine.
