Let's just state the obvious: buying Christmas gifts for anyone can be extremely challenging. But buying a Christmas gift for your favorite person in the world? That adds about 500 percent more pressure. Shopping for that special someone in your life doesn't have to be terribly stressful as long as you don't get them a dreadful gift. Here are 17 gifts not to buy your girlfriend or your friend with benefits or even a girl who's just a friend for Christmas.

1. Clothes

Unless I explicitly ask for a specific piece of clothing, please don’t buy me clothes -- especially if you don’t know my size!

2. Gift cards

This is the type of gift distant relatives give you or a gift you win from a present exchange. A $20 gift card to Starbucks isn’t going to cut it.

3. A stuffed animal

Childish. Save it for Valentine's Day at least.

4. Food or candy

I’m already eating enough during this holiday season, I don’t need any more calories!

5. Jewelry

Don’t get me wrong, jewelry is great, but do your research and ask my friends or family to ensure that you get something my style.

6. Socks

Please don’t.

7. Anything from Bath & Body Works

No shower gels, lotions, or soaps. I have a feeling that I’ll get enough from other people, don’t add to the mix.

8. Lingerie

That’s more of a gift for you..

9. Tickets to a sporting event

I would prefer tickets to a ballet or play.

10. Perfume

Unless I clearly ask for a certain designer perfume, then stay clear of the perfume counter.

11. Flowers

Flowers die, just like how our love will if that’s my Christmas gift this year.

12. A book

I’m already forced to read books for class (and I rarely even read those), don’t add to my collection of unread books.

13. A promise ring

I’d rather get an engagement ring, but I’m obviously not even ready for that yet, so just stay clear of any sort of “commitment” rings.

14. An engagement ring

Like I said, not ready yet.

15. Live animals

Pets are living creatures that require commitment. That’s like having a child. I love puppies, but don't surprise me with one.

16. A onesie

I am an adult. I’ll pass on the onesie.

17. Nothing

Not okay. #sorrynotsorry
