Let's be real, no matter what year of college you're in, each visit home makes you miss it a little. Whether it's getting to eat actual meals, seeing your family and pets you haven't seen in a few weeks or the fact that you can just chill out and not worry about cleaning, it's easy to take for granted all the things that you get at home. Even though it is exciting to live on your own, here are eleven things you took for granted when you lived at home:
1. Home cooked meals
No matter how good or bad your mom's cooking was, it's definitely better than those frozen dinners you've been heating up each week. Even your attempt at mac and cheese just doesn't taste the same.2. An (almost) always clean house
Somehow, most days, despite your parents hectic work schedule, they always made sure the house was cleaned up. We've all had mornings were we rush out the door, leave our dishes and clothes all over the room and leave our beds unmade and usually at home they would somehow disappear and the house would be cleaned by the time you got home from school but when you live on your own...it magically doesn't vanish and you just push your clothes under your bed and just get back into bed.
3. Free Laundry
WHO HAS THE MONEY TO SPEND 8 DOLLARS EVERY TIME THEY DO LAUNDRY?! Broke college kids sure don't. That's why you wait until you have absolutely nothing to wear and do it in your pi's at 2 A.M.
4. Grocery Shopping
The grocery store is super overwhelming. Sure you know what food you like but you never noticed how much your favorite foods cost but do you know what brand your parents usually get? Or what specific Bertolli frozen dinner chicken meals you like? Forget about the first time you see the bill for the groceries. Don't worry, I was shocked too.
5. Having your own room
Don't get me wrong, like many others I wanted the college experience of having a room mate and I lucked out and we get along well. But every once in awhile it'd be nice to be able to chill out in your room, binge watch your favorite show on Netflix, order as much pizza as you can physically eat and not move for 3 days without feeling judged.
6. The Dorm Kitchens
Each time you walk into the dorm kitchen; the sinks are clogged, their are stains on the counters and the garbages are overflown. That would never pass at your house.
7. Communal Bathrooms
Like the dorm's kitchen, the communal bathrooms are a mess. Theres hair everywhere, no one cleans up after themselves and it's just an unpleasant experience.
8. Your own personal space
Sometimes you just need to unwind by yourself in your room after a long day. At home it's easier to just go into your room and close the door but while you're away it's a lot harder to have alone time.
9. Being sick
The first time you get sick away is the absolute worst. Actually anytime you get sick when you're living alone blows. Your mom's not there to bring you crackers or soup. You have to go out and get medicine. It's a total nightmare.
10. Your favorite restaurants
It took awhile to find the perfect place but eventually you knew what restaurant makes your food the way you want it. When you move, you're lost. Where do I buy my pizza from? What Chinese food place gives you and egg roll with your sesame chicken lunch special?
11. Your family
No matter how close in distance you actually are to your family, it's not the same. You can't just walk into the next room over and show them that funny cat vine you saw or watch your favorite show together. But it makes the time that you guys are together that much better
