Humans are, unfortunately, forgetful. Many things slip our minds every day. We forget meetings, to send birthday cards, what we needed from Target and why we were walking into the next room. However, there are so many things that we should never forget.
1.The world is much bigger than yourself
You share a planet with seven billion other people. We are all infinitesimal little blobs of neural signals and organs (among other things) according to the big picture. Sometimes it’s incredibly easy to sink into our own natural routines and worry only about ourselves. The world is much bigger than ourselves. It’s important to know that we can seek counsel in others, lean on each other and help people who aren’t in the intimate circle of our lives.
2. You should be unafraid to be unpopular
Growing up, fitting in was the most important thing in my school. Everyone had their “clique” they surrounded themselves with so they would always have someone to sit with at lunch and people to drive to football games with. We should be unafraid to be unpopular. Differences are what make us unique and original. The best products and bright ideas have come from people who are willing to step out from the crowd and showcase what they think is great.
3. Life is too short to spend any of it hating anything
The best mantra to have in life is happiness. Scientifically, our brains are chemically engineered to remember the not-so-great parts of our day. We’re much more likely to recall the woman who was rude to us on the phone than the coworker who told us we were doing a great job. Instead of focusing on the negative, make a true effort to remember the great things about your day. Life is too short to spend any of it hating anything. Get yourself an iced latte, have brunch with a friend, or catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while. Training your mind to see the goodness in life is difficult, but becomes easier with practice.
4. Your future is in your own hands
The average human life expectancy is 78 years old, which equates to 28,740 mornings, afternoons, and evenings that we are blessed with. Some have more time than that, and some less. Often times, we get stuck in our day-to-day lives; going to work every morning and coming home every night, just to repeat the process again the next day. So many times, we forget that our future is in our own hands. We have one life to make a difference and a wonderful impact in this world. We have 28,740 days to start fresh and create the best version of ourself possible.
5. There is always something to be thankful for.
Even when you've had the worst day of your life, there is always something to be thankful for. Maybe you made your oatmeal perfectly that morning, or your dog came to the couch to snuggle with you while you watched a movie. It's important to remember that even in the worst times, we can always find happiness.
