It’s almost time! Time to cram all of your favorite clothes, shoes, blankets, and decorations into a tiny college room. Time to see the friends you were inseparable from until a summer took you apart. Time to worry about cramming for tests and about which outfit is right for that night. Time to cheer on your college. While there are many exciting things that go along with moving back to your college (FREEDOM), there’s also a few things you can’t help but know you’ll miss…even if it is hard to admit it.
1. Your family. They’ve annoyed you literally every day this summer, and you can’t wait to get away from the rules…but you know that you’ll miss their nagging questions, even just a little bit.
2. High School friends (that you’re still close with). I still love my high school best friends and love us all being in the same general area. There’s just no connection like the one made over plaid skirts and gross lunches. I’ll miss our late-night movies, getting food, and doing absolutely nothing together.
3. Your pet. They don’t know that you really will be back, they just know that you’re leaving, and it breaks your heart Every. Single. Time. My dog, Jackie (aka Princess), has mastered sad puppy eyes no dog could dream of, and she doesn’t know how much it hurts.
4. Familiar/country roads. I love country roads. I love the trees, cornfields, and the memories. I could go for a midnight drive almost any time. Going back to school is a little different. I’ll be closer to the mall, but farther from my peace. There’s more lights, more people, and less serenity in those streets.
5. Favorite restaurants. Maybe it’s a mom and pop place, or maybe it’s the Chick-fil-A just a block away, but there’s nothing quite like being at home by places where you know the owner, have worked at, or have tried just about everything on the menu. While I’m ready to get back to some of my favorite college food, I’ll miss the one-of-a-kind pizza and chicken only my town can offer.
6. Your money. College is expensive. Summer gave me time to work Monday through Friday and save up for all of the pizza that is needed in college. Oh, and the books. I’ll miss having the time to work, and I’ll definitely miss my money as I watch it dwindle down.
7. Your bed. Even when on vacation, you can’t help but get excited to come home to the comfort of your own bed. Maybe it's the place or the fact that the mattress is not as thin as paper.
All of these things said, I am so excited to move into my dorm this year. I can’t wait to see my friends and have our “family dinners,” movie nights, and going into the city. I’ll miss home, but I always know I’ll be back soon!
