10 Things You Miss When You Leave For College
Olivia Ruff

College is right around the corner for all of us and that means packing up and moving back to campus. Nobody looks forward to packing up all of their stuff from home and moving it all back to college-it's horrible. I love spending time here at home with my family and friends so moving back to school never seems exciting. There are so many things about home that I miss during the school year-many of which, you'll agree with.

1. My Dogs

My boys are my best friends during the summer. Every night my little puppy comes and lays on my chest and falls asleep. My other big buddy loves nothing more than to play fetch with me in the yard--he could do it for days. There is something so comforting having a little being love you unconditionally.

2. Mom's Cooking

Just look at this picture-need I say more? A mother's cooking is next to none. Every meal is thought out and prepared with love which sets the meals apart from anyone else's. At college the meals are mediocre and miss one key ingredient. Love.

3. Swimming

There is nothing more refreshing than hopping into the cool, crystal-clear water on an unbearably hot summer day. Swimming is key to a fun-filled summer; it gives friends and family a reason to have fun together. If you are like me, it is an ideal place to work on getting a tan as well.

4. No Homework

With no school comes no homework, which is a glorious thing. Being overworked during the school year is exhausting, so summer is a great time to sit back, relax, and have a good time with family and friends.

5. My Church Family

My church family is just as close to me as my biological family; every single person is genuine and open, which has let me grow close to many of them. When I move back to school my church is too far away to drive to every Sunday which saddens me to no end. However, I am always welcomed back at the end of the year with open arms and big smiles. I am incredibly blessed.

6. Going On Vacation

Another great part of summer is vacationing! I am so lucky to be able to go many places: Florida, Germany, and many other fun destinations. Going to the beach or traveling far away immersing yourself in a new culture creates memories that will last a lifetime.

7. Seeing My Friends

My friends from home are friends who know me better than anyone else. Once the semester begins we all go our separate ways making it harder to see each other. Spending the summers together with my amazing friends makes the summers hard to forget but even harder to part with.

8. My Own Bed

There is something soothing about cuddling up in your blankets and drifting off to sleep in your own bed. Truly nothing is better. When trying to sleep in unfamiliar places, all of the random noises of the house creaking keeps you up at night. When you are in your own bed, you're completely at ease and the bed is actually comfortable compared to nasty, thin, dorm beds.

9. My Boyfriend

Look at this guy-how can I NOT miss him. Spending summer days with him are the best whether it be on vacation in Michigan with his family or spending lazy days binge-watching our favorite shows. Being away from you while I am at college will be difficult, but I am confident that we will be stronger because of it.

10. My Family

Last but not least, my family. These four, superb, humorous, and caring individuals make up my strongest support system. Separating from them is like cutting off a limb of mine: it just isn't right. Leaving them is what brings me to tears as I watch them drive away after moving me back to college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
