Although summer is great, there are so many things I miss when I'm back home for three months. I can't say I miss classes or the work aspect of school, but I do miss so many other things about it. Being away from my friends is hard and always so boring. There's nothing like living with the people you love and doing nothing but having fun all day, every day. Just the atmosphere of being on campus alone makes me miss being at school. From seeing people everywhere I go, to spending time in the student center, to walking to class. Summer is great, but there a ton of things about school that I truly miss when I'm home and these are just a few.
1. All of your friends being a room away
Some people may hate having to share a crappy dorm room with a roommate or living with 6+ people, but I love it. I absolutely love having my closest friends living right next to me. Once I get home for the summer I start to realize how quiet and boring it is to not be surrounded by your friends all the time. It’s never a dull moment with my pals around and it’s something I miss every summer I’m back home.
2. Late night convos
Every once in a while a good “vent session” is needed, even if it’s until 3:00 AM when you all have early classes tomorrow. One of the best parts of living with your friends is always having someone to talk to. Everyone venting about their life story, the struggles of being single, and whether that kid in your finance class is your future husband is needed and very much missed from May to August.
3. Always having someone to go out with
It isn’t exactly as acceptable to go out all the time at home like it is at school. Once you get home it’s time to start work or an internship and you can’t just skip that in the morning like you would your 8 AM. Whether it’s to the bar, a party, or even just out to dinner, there is always someone who wants to get out and do something and have fun.
3. Wine and movie nights
It’s safe to say drinking 8 dollar wine and binge watching "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" on a Tuesday night isn’t exactly as thrilling to do with your family. (Mom won’t appreciate hot 2008 Rob like we all will).
4. "What are you doing, wanna get pizza?"
Yes, yes I do. There is always one friend who says it, while everyone else is thinking it. Yes, I would like to order pizza for the 3rd time this week.
5. Ending up at Target every other day
Target is like a safe haven for broke college kids, providing us with everything from our snacking needs to cheap leggings when you haven’t done laundry in weeks. Don’t get me wrong, Target sees my face pretty often over the summer as well, but for some reason its way more fun in between classes with some pals.
6. Impromptu dance parties
These usually come when everyone has important exams to study for or that one song that amps everyone up comes on shuffle. I can’t begin to explain how much more fun 80’s throwback music dance parties or attempting to learn music video choreography is in comparison to schoolwork. It may be weird, it may be embarrassing, but we all know it happens in a dorm suite full of girls. Once Bruce Springsteen starts playing, there’s no turning back
7. Being on campus
There’s just something about living on campus and being surrounded by people all the time that makes being on campus that much better. I love being able to see everyone throughout the day and the atmosphere of the campus bubble. Going to such a small university, the “Bryant Bubble” is extremely real and I really do miss it when I’m home.
