10 Thing I Never Thought I'd Miss About My Family

As I start my first year of college, I never thought I would feel so at home in somewhere I did not know in the slightest bit. I thought I would go crazy with school work and want to constantly eat mac and cheese and never work out. However, that is not the case. My first week at college has taught me that I can accomplish anything I truly put my mind to. I do miss my family like crazy though.

I am an 18 year old girl who has never been far from home, or far enough to realize it was a bother. I am only an hour away, but the heart wants what it wants, and right now it could use my mom's breakfast sandwich with lots of melted cheese. Soon enough everybody will embark on the time of their life.

1. I miss the way my sister I would fight over stupid stuff.

My sister who is three years younger than me could fit into my clothes and would constantly steal them. We would fight over what was what and whose was whose. We had that final fight when I moved in and secretly stole some clothes that she took back home with her. If you have a sister you know exactly what I mean.

2. I miss how loud my grandparents would play their TV.

As I walk into my grandparents house, I could hear the TV from the outside. All these years I have complained about it, and now I miss the welcoming that would accompany the loud noises of the TV.

3. I miss how my mom would yell at me for not cleaning up properly.

Now, I live in an on-campus apartment and always have to clean up after myself, and now sometimes my roommates. I would love for my mom to come and just tell me how to properly clean up, even if it is slightly a scolding.

4. I miss how my dog barks at everything.

NEVER would I have guessed that I would miss how my dog barks at everything, and when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING! She would bark at leaves, the wind, the trees, the rain, and of course other dogs and people. I miss her more and more everyday and I would love to hear one of her barks right about now.

5. I miss the random dinner trips with my cousin.

My cousin is one of my best friends, and when all else failed I would turn to her for plans. In college, it is hard to find friends in the first week so you learn to appreciate and miss the people who have loved you forever and will always love you.

6. I miss coming home to Dad passed out on the couch.

Every night, after coming home from hanging out with my boyfriend or friends whether it was seven o'clock or 12 o'clock I would always find my dad passed out on the couch from a long hard day.

7. I miss my mom doing my laundry.

I know that isn't a huge surprise, but I miss the free laundry I would get and would never waste money on the smaller loads, because all my family laundry would get done at the same time. Plus, when my mom would do my laundry it was in my house, not down the street or down the hall like it is now.

8. I miss how my mom and dad make sandwiches.

Everybody can agree, the best sandwich maker is either your mom or dad. Well in my case, it's both. My sandwiches just don't quite compete with the master sandwiches my parents make.

9. I miss coming home to my sister.

After a long day of sitting out in the sun at my lifeguarding job where I would talk to nobody, I would come home to my wonderful sister and sit on her bed for a long time just talking due to the lack of human contact I had for hours before coming home.

10. I just simply miss home.

College is cool and all and I know it will be the time of my life, but as Dorothy once said, "There is no place like home."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
