Everyone worries sometimes. Some people, like me, worry more than others. But its really important to set down and look at why we worry, and how silly it is. God literally has everything under control, and we can fully trust Him with our lives. Here are some common things we worry about, and what God has to say about them and the way we worry.
1. Finances
Philippians 4:19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Money, or lack there of, adds a lot of stress to a lot of peoples lives. God tells us not to worry about money or any other riches. If you will yourself with God, He will provide for your every need. God gives everyone this thing called "daily bread". Daily bread is what you need to get through the day. God will always give you your daily bread, and you will always have what you need.
2. Looks
Genesis 1:27 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;male and female He created them.
God created you in His image. Think about that. Say that out loud. God created YOU in HIS image. God also created me in His image. God actually created every single person in his image. So if we are all created in the image of God, how can we not be beautiful? God made us how He wants us, and He loves us exactly as we are, so we can and should love ourselves that much too!
3. Loneliness
Zephaniah 3:17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
17 “The Lord your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
You are truly never alone. God literally is always with you. He is always ready and willing to listen and help you!
4. The future
Jeremiah 29:11 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
11 For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
Let's go back to daily bread for a second. As I said before God gives us our daily bread, or everything that we need to get through the day. God gives us new bread every single day, so there is no need to try and get your bread for tomorrow, next week, or five years from now. God wants to bless you and provide you with an amazing life here on earth. All you need to do is trust His plan for you! How do you know what God's plan for you is? Ask him. Pray about it. You will know.
5. Fitting in
Romans 12:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
The reality is, you do not need to fit in! Don't shy away from the amazing person that God wants you to be in order to fit in or please others. Let your real self shine through, and if others do not accept that person, remember that you always fit in with God.
6. Impressing others
1 Peter 3:3-4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
Learn to impress people with the you that is on the inside, not just the beauty that is the outside. God crafted your heart to be loving and kind and just as He wants your heart to be. Remember to show your inner self, and use the gifts that God has given you!
7. Being Forgiven
Romans 8:1-4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Sometimes, we mess up. (I know, shocking) Everyone makes mistakes. We hurt the people that we love, we say things that we don't mean, and we disobey God. God knows that, and He does not call us to be perfect in anyway. But these mistakes that we make can often lead to painful guilt and stress that is unnecessary. If you are truly sorry and repent to God he will forgive you, and by forgive I mean really forgive. No need for guilt, no need for sorrow, no need for pain.God fully forgives us because He loves us so much, and that forgiveness is more important and special than any forgiveness or redemption that the world could ever give us.
8. Being Loved
Romans 5:8 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God loves us so unbelievably much. He loves us so much that He gave us His only son to die for our sins and save us. There are no words that can even come close to discibing the love that God has for us, and it is never going away!
9. Anything
Matthew 6:25-33 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The Cure for Anxiety
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
God takes care of the birds. If God cares for birds, think about how much more He must care for you, His son or daughter. He will never leave you or let you down. Trust him, love him, and stop worrying because he has everything under perfect control!
So, above all else, remember this:
1 Peter 5:6-8New American Standard Bible (NASB)
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you
Things are going to be just fine. Trust in God, trust in His promises, and trust in His timing. And when you struggle to do so, as we all do, "cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you!"
