10 Things We Forgot To Thank Our Mothers For On Mother's Day

Being a mom isn’t a bang in/bang out shift; it’s around the clock work. We don’t thank our moms enough for the things that they do, and it shouldn't just be a day on the calendar that we show our appreciation. We should show our appreciation the other 364 days as well.

1. Thank you for bringing us into this world.

If it wasn't for you and dad, I wouldn't be here today. I guess I should also thank grandma and grandpa for bringing you into the world so that you could be my mom.

2. Thank you for teaching us our first words.

Learning how to talk isn’t always easy, but we learn soon enough those simple words like, "ma-ma," and, "da-da." My first word was "ma-ma," so you must have been quite the influence on me.

3. Thank you for picking us up after we fell off our bike for the 10th time.

Dad was usually the one who taught me how to throw a ball and ride a bike, but after dad sent me on my way down the sidewalk, you were the one I looked back at hoping you’d catch me. I’m glad you came to the rescue with Neosporin and Bandaids.

4. Thank you for being that dedicated mom at all of our sporting events.

Playing sports in high school was one of my greatest memories yet. I loved when I could look off into the stands or off to the sidelines and see you sitting there rain or shine. You always had that sports vehicle, big enough for anyone and everything. With the fold up chairs and coolers in the trunk and the "Soccer Mom" and "Hockey Mom" stickers on the back.

5. Thank you for cooking our grilled cheese to perfection.

I hope one day I can be just as good of a cook as you. For the past 20 years of my life, you managed to put breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table. I can only imagine how hard it is to cook something three times a day, everyday. Even though someday I will be moving out, I’ll be back for your grilled cheese and tomato soup.

6. Thank you for helping us pick out the perfect prom dress.

Prom was something that most girls talked about the whole year. I know I did. I couldn't wait to get the perfect dress, get my hair, nails and makeup done and just feel like the most beautiful girl for a whole night. Even though sometimes we don’t always agree on what we think looks best, the prom dress was something we agreed on two years in a row.

7. Thank you for being the sponge that soaks up all the messes.

You are my favorite person in the world to talk to about my problems with. Whether it was a test that I completely bombed, an interview that I was nervous for or a broken heart, you were always there. You would think some sponges would get full after a while, but you never do.

8. Thank you for always choosing our side, even if you know we’re wrong.

It isn’t always easy to be told the words, “you’re wrong.” But you’ve always had my back and my side of the argument when it comes to school, sports, boyfriends or even dad. Together you and I make a great team.

9. Thank you for answering our calls at 2 a.m. when we just need to talk.

I know that no matter what time it is, I can always call you and ask for your advice, or just to talk with you. You always know what to say and how to make me feel better even when I think something is 10 times worse than it really is. Thank you for always giving me that reassurance.

10. Most importantly, thank you for being our mom all 365 days of the year.

Some days, I can only imagine how hard it can be for you to juggle work, laundry, cooking, cleaning and us, but just know that even if you think you don't feel like you're giving us your best, it's okay because all moms need a break too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
