18 Things All Twins Are Sick Of Hearing

18 Things All Twins Are Sick Of Hearing
Sarah Smerko

If I had a nickel for every time I heard a stereotypical twin question, joke or reference to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, I would have enough money to pay for all four years of my private school tuition without any financial assistance and then some. Here's a list of 18 things I have heard as a twin (and that I'm sure other twins have heard as well).

1. " Are you twins?"

No, we just look really similar...

2. "Oh my God, can you like, read each other's minds?"

Honestly... sometimes. But don't stereotype me with those questions! #NotAllTwins

3. "Which one is the smarter one? Which one is the prettier one?"

Do you really expect me to answer that?

4. "Say something at the same time! What's your favorite food?"

"Uhhh... steak?"

"It works!"

5. "Have you ever switched places, like in "The Parent Trap" film? I would so do that if I were you."

Nope, never have. And you're only the 15,467th person to ask me this.

6. "Do you like being a twin?"

Do you like being a middle child? What kind of question is that? (But yes, I love it.)

7. "Has one of your boyfriends ever confused you for the other?"

(Actually heard this at a party one time). Is this you trying to flirt with me? No. Literally this has never happened. #singlelife

8. "I wish I had a twin!"

Yeah, it's pretty freaking great.

9. Someone always mentions the television show, "Sister, Sister."

10. "Are you identical or fraternal?"

The random stranger proceeds to stare for uncomfortable amount of time.

"I think one of you has a bigger forehead?"

"Narrower face?"

"Different smile?"

"I don't know, your faces are just different."

11. "Are you going to have a joint wedding? What if you marry twins?"

A thousand times no. Just no.

12. "I couldn't tell you apart for a year."

Gee, thanks.

13. Someone calls one twin's name to see which one turns around.

14. "Did your mom dress you alike?"

Smiles politely, "Maybe."

15. "Have your parents ever gotten you confused?"

No. They are my parents. Have your parents ever gotten you and your siblings confused?

16. "How can I tell you apart?"

We have different personalities!

17. "Who came out first?"

Wow, what lovely vernacular. (I was born second by the way.)

18. "Are you best friends? Is it so much fun?"

Even though this question gets annoying to answer time after time again, yes we are. I wouldn't trade my best friend, partner-in-crime and literal day-one for anyone. Love ya, sister.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
