5 Things To Look Forward To On Spring Break

After winter break, everyone looks forward to getting back to his or her beloved university. You get to reunite with friends, start up your daily routine again and get that freedom back that every college kid loves. But after syllabus week ends, you begin to realize that you are actually back at school—yes school—which means 8 a.m. classes and tests that are all scheduled in the same week. On top of that, spring break is approaching, meaning that you should probably stop ordering Falbo’s Pizza at 1 a.m. every other night. So after a few weeks back into school, you start to get those winter blues. On the bright side, there is something to look forward to... a whole week of spring break.

1. Say goodbye to the diets, ladies.

After skipping out on those late night pizza places, telling yourself the salad tastes just as good as the pasta and not eating any of your Valentines Day candy, you can finally eat again. Going on vacation is not only great because of the wonderful tan you get, but also because of the food. Resort food is the best food. You can have it delivered to you at any time of the day, and you never have to use real money! That is until your parents see the hotel bill on check out day.

2. You can go back to being a couch potato.

We all know that in the month before spring break, everyone becomes gym rats. You go to the rec and not only see a multitude of friends, but you can even spot a few TAs and professors trying to shed some of their holiday pounds, too. Once that hard works pays off, you don’t feel half as bad being photographed half-naked. But lets not kid ourselves, the next time you hit the gym will probably be next year right before spring break 2017.

3. People won't mistake you for Casper the Ghost anymore.

If you don’t go to school down south, which many of us don’t, then you understand just how hard it is to go from having a summer tan to being as pale as a sheet of paper. No matter how many times you spray tan before date parties or formal, it just is not the same as having that vitamin D soaked up into your pores. So when spring break finally comes around, it’s time to bake. You spend your week eating, swimming and drinking all while laying out in the sun, hoping that every second gets you closer and closer to what once was your summer glow. When you return to school, you can’t help but feel better about yourself since you are no longer paying $12.99 for an artificial tan.

4. You get to enjoy family time.

Going away to college does wonders for the child-parent relationship. You don’t get annoyed by each others’ constant contact, you have fewer things to argue over—except money and grades, those are still issues—and when you see each other you actually appreciate the time spent together. So when you get to go on break, you take time to catch up with your parents and actually learn about their lives without you. You’d be surprised as to how much cooler you think they are once they have fewer things to nag you about.

5. The final countdown to summer begins.

Once you hit spring break, you only have a month and a half left of school. That means 45 more days of lectures, discussions and finals. But once those finals are over, you get three months of pure bliss. No more doing your own laundry, stressing about school or having to watch TV shows online three days after they air. All your problems seem to go away when summer time comes back around. So once you end spring break, remember you just have one final stretch and then you are back in the comfort of your own home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
