As the fall semester comes to a close, college students everywhere are in a down right frenzy. All they think about is studying, papers, exams, presentations, group meetings, deadlines, and the list could go on. But the best thing about this stressful time is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel-winter break.
1. No more finals
The thing that you very well thought may be the end of you is done. You survived. Give yourself a pat on the back.
2. No assigned work over break
Thanksgiving break normally isn't too relaxing for many people. Simply because school is still happening-assignments are still due as soon as you get back, and a lot of people use their days off to catch up. But with winter break you're a free bird. Unless you are taking wintermester classes, for which I am deeply sorry, god speed my friend.
3. The promise of a fresh start in January
A new semester means a whole new set of classes, and a freshly filled up meal plan. What an opportunity to succeed.
4. The holidays
No matter what you celebrate, winter break offers the perfect time to relax, enjoy your time spent with family and friends, eat good food, and be merry.
5. A break from campus food
Dining halls get old reeaaal quick. And everyone was spoiled rotten at Thanksgiving with a nice hearty home cooked meal, which makes the few weeks between breaks nearly impossible. Just knowing that you won't have to deal with the questionable chicken dish on the buffet line for at least a few weeks, is comfort to anyone.
6. A break from campus living
Dorms and apartments can feel so cramped. Being able to go home and simply have space, your own room, and your own bed, now that's bliss.
7. A break from your roommate
Maybe you love em', maybe you hate em'-either way you get a break from your roommate. With the stress of school and such tight living quarters, it's easy for people living in such a close proximity to get on each others nerves. Spending some time away from each other might just make coming back to school and your reunion that much more special.
8. Break means home
Home can mean so many things to so many people, maybe its your house, your town, your state, whatever brings you back to your roots. Either way, there's a special feeling when you get to go back, a little escape from school, and a chance to embrace the place that made you, you.
9. Family time
For some people seeing family during Thanksgiving was enough, they could wait it out a little longer. But for others spending time with family, especially during this time of year, is so exciting, it's all they can think about. Either way going home normally means you're stuck with them, so enjoy the time while you can before your forced into the real world with only a few days off at a time to visit.
10. Reunite with high school friends
You create a small family at school, you find your niche, your people, and they make your college life the best, but it's hard for many to go without seeing the friends they had all growing up for so long. Going home for break means that everyone else will be there too, let the basement parties begin.
11. An excuse to do nothing
Winter Break. Break, you know as in not obligated to do anything productive at all for at least three weeks. Lounging, snacking, and Netflix binging will take over the lives of college students all across America for the next upcoming weeks. Relax and have fun- you deserve it.
For these reason's and so many more, I'd like to thank the dude that invented long winter breaks for college kids. You're the real MVP.
