9 Things We Could Learn From Dogs That Will Help Us In 2019 And Beyond

Being a dog owner means watching your dog often, and watching your dog often means you pick up on their behaviors and attitudes towards certain situations. Eventually, you might even start to learn from them. With that being said, here are 9 things my dog does that I think I should be doing too.

1. Be nice to people just because you can.

Giphy

If there's no reason to dislike someone, don't be mean. It costs nothing to be kind, and it's so much easier than being mean. Dogs have no problem with this, so why should we?

2. A day can be good even if bad things happen.

Giphy

Not to say there aren't bad days, but one little thing (say, accidentally stepping on my dog's paw) isn't going to determine the mood for the next 24 hours (because he forgets about it immediately). Stay positive for as long as you can!

3. Check in on your loved ones.

Dogs will bother you (lovingly) when they're bored until you're receptive to their needs. Similarly, we should try to be receptive to how our loved ones are feeling. It never hurts to ask. They could be dealing with something you don't know about; or, if they're fine, it's still nice to show your appreciation for them.

4. Routines aren't as bad as you think.

Sure, they aren't always the best, but routines can give your life some structure. I'm not talking just about routines for activities like showering and eating (which are still important), but even for working or socializing. It's easier to follow a schedule than impulsively making decisions throughout your day, and it keeps you feeling a little more put together.

5. Go on a walk every day.

Whether it's to get your heart rate up or to clear your mind, it's never a bad idea to take a walk. It's a good way to take a break in your day, and it gets those endorphins flowing!

6. Approach (friendly) strangers and make new friends!

My dog will stop walking if I don't let him say hi to the passerby on the street. He has no fears that they might not like him or anything; if he wants to approach them, he will. And if he isn't afraid of what people will think, maybe I shouldn't be either.

7. Be selective about what you eat off the ground

Like, a chip that fell on the ground is probably fine, but if I drop something like an apple it's either getting power washed or thrown away.

8. Get a good night's sleep.

I know this might not be possible for most of us, but please don't forget to sleep. Dogs are always sleeping, and they're living their best lives, so I'm not arguing. Take a nap!

9. Every day is a "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" story, but it's an adventure nonetheless.

......SQUIRREL?

Giphy

Dogs look forward to every day. Maybe we should, too.

Dogs seem to be doing just as well, if not better, than us. They're (mostly) carefree and full of positivity. It's 2019. Let's live like dogs!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
