Knoxville is starting to show some life with spring in the air. The air feels a little warmer, smells a little sweeter, and the sun is shining a little brighter. With the warm air causing buds to pop up and flowers to bloom, it is the perfect time to take advantage of the spring season before the muggy heat of summer hits us.

1. Hike through Knoxville's Urban Wilderness

This time of the year, with trees blooming and nature painting a pretty pastel scenery, get out and hike through it all! Knoxville's historic preservation of land is about 1,000 acres and offers different trails to get you moving. Whether you are looking for a quick stroll or a long, strenuous hike, this preservation offers different amenities for every kind of outdoorsy man and woman. You will find playgrounds, lakes, quarries and historical sites throughout the many different trails and recreational areas they have.

2. Zipline with Navitat

Rated number one on trip advisor for outdoor activities, this outdoor adventure park offers zip lining and testy pole structures which challenge endurance and balance. If you are looking for something to challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone, this is the place to go. Also, do not worry if you feel this is too difficult for you, they offer different levels of difficulty for those that rather play it safe.

3. Zoo Knoxville

Ready to see some cute monkeys or furry lions? The Zoo here in Knoxville is a hot spot for people to go to and see some of nature's most amazing animals. With the weather warming up and a refreshing breeze in the air, the zoo this time of year is a great place to be. Experience behind the scene tours and night safaris. Or, check out their newest addition, the Boyd Family Asian Check. Here, Malayan Tigers and White Naped Cranes dwell. You can go and check out these animals along with a suspension bridge and a multi-level tree house!

4. Dogwood Arts Festival

One of the longest-running festivals in Knoxville dating back to 1961, this festival offers talented artists coming together to showcase their greatest skills. See the culture of the city and experience the Chalk Walk, where artists show their skills on the city's sidewalk with chalk. There are also trails and gardens to be explored during this enchanted festival!

5. Billy Lush Boards and Brew

If you are looking for something to do on the Tennessee River, this is the activity for you! Offering paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks, this rental company allows you to rent water equipment to get your float on. Not only can you just rent equipment, they offer classes on the water ranging from yoga classes to paddleboard classes. Get amazing views of campus and enjoy the green scenery of fresh bloomed flowers and trees on the water's edge.

These are just some of the many things to do around Knoxville this spring! Spring is the time of rebirth and renewal, so get out there and try something new for yourself and friends!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
