As I was scrolling through Pinterest, I came across a post titled, “A List of Random and Unrelated Things to Remember” by Veronica Erickson and she spoke directly to my heart.

It’s time to remember to do more than just exist.

Time Heals

Everything heals. Your body heals. Your heart heals. The mind heals. Wounds heal. Your soul repairs itself. Your happiness is always going to come back. Bad times don’t last.

Mountain Winds Sound Exactly Like Ocean Waves

“If you ever find yourself empty from something you cannot know or name, find a stretch of ocean, a field, or mountainside, or even clouds, or trees. Because there are 1,000 simple ways to fill your tired soul so you can remember how to be, how to see, and most importantly, how to breathe.” -Veronica Erickson

You Are Worth Everything Now

Stop waiting for the perfect man to make you happy. Stop waiting to drop twenty pounds to go to the beach. Stop waiting to pay off your student loans to backpack Europe. Stop waiting until you graduate to build a life for yourself. STOP WAITING. You are worth it now. Right this second. You are the important one, you are the only thing that can make you happy.

Walls Can Be Destroyed

I’m not talking about the Berlin Wall, or the Great Wall of China, or even the stupid wall that Donald Trump wants to build (though those are great examples), I’m talking about the walls we build up around ourselves. The higher you build the walls around your heart, the harder you fall when someone breaks them down, and someone will always break them down. It’s okay to be vulnerable, it’s okay to be hurt, that just means you’re human, and you’re really and truly living.

The Sun Always Rises (and is always beautiful)

The sun will rise and set regardless. What we choose to do with the light while it’s here is up to us. Journey wisely. And please, at least once, experience a sunrise.

Children Know the Answers

If a child tells you you’re pretty, trust me, you’re pretty.

There is Music in Everything

Just listen. Listen to the wind, the rain, the ocean waves. Listen to old people tell stories. Listen to the laughter of little children. Listen to your own heartbeat. There is music everywhere. Just listen.

Logic Doesn’t Produce Magic

“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” –Roald Dahl

Somewhere, Somebody Loves You

I don’t care if it's your momma, your daddy, or your bald headed granny, someone out there loves you for exactly who you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty. Someone thinks the sun shines out of your butt.

You Don’t Need To Choose Mediocre When Fire Exists

“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” –Nelson Mandela

The Moon Orchestrates Our Nights and Tides

“Wait for someone who could be the moon for you. Just as strong, just as steady. Illuminating changes and seas and blooming flowers and summer nights. They’d wait for you in the dark. They’d dance around the sun. They’d receive your primal howls, your secrets, your dreams, and shifting tides. Wait for the moon. Wait for nothing less than what steals your breath. What breaks you open. What lures your soul. What helps you rise.” –Victoria Erickson

Trees Can Grow Through Rock

(and so can you) Everyone faces obstacles in their life, even nature, but you must remember that paper always beats rock.

Your Heart Expands When it’s Broken

Your heart is not broken. Hearts don’t break. What you are feeling is growing pains. Your heart is expanding in wisdom, compassion, and strength, so one day, you can love even more.

You Should Do It Now

“And then there is the most dangerous risk of all –the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” One day, you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. DO IT NOW.

Take this list however you would like, these are simply the interpretations I needed for my personal life.

Whatever you do, and however you choose to interpret this list, please remember to do more than just exist.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
