Sweet summer time is calling to us. The beach, our homes, our friends and our parents. You just can't wait to go home and as soon as you finish your last final, you're ready to pack up and get out of there. But what are we to expect when we come home to our loving bed and parents?
Coming home at 3 am isn't so alright.
College gives us the freedom to come and go as you please and not care what anyone else says. But for some reason, your parents don't seem to appreciate your early morning wake-up call. It takes a lot of getting used to the whole "you're under my roof again, so you follow my rules." Because it is hard to go from all the freedom in the world to what seems like Harry Potters cupboard of a room.
Your leftover food is going to get eaten.
Living on your own or with roommates is great, because they don't steal or eat your food. When you go home, expect that little black box in the fridge to be gone within the hour. In your parents house it's fair game and if you don't hide it or leave a threat on the box, it will be taken away from you.
You aren't going to hang out with a lot of people.
While away at college you find out who your real friends are from back home and who really doesn't care. Summer is a great time to hang out with friends, but you aren't going to hang out with the squad from high school. Things don't seem like they've changed, but they have. But that doesn't mean that the summer isn't going to be fun, because it is.
You're going to forget you're not at school.
Going to a university and having the world at your fingertips, and by world I mean an Olive Garden five minutes away from your house. But coming home, especially to a small town, you realize that you're actually going to have to drive to get some breadsticks. You'll find yourself starting to text someone from college and ask them to hang out, and then it'll hit you that you're not in the same town, maybe not even the same state.
You're going to miss college and your friends.
Yea you missed home and all, but college is so incredible that you're going to miss it just as much. You're going to be torn from taking road trips to see all your friends and visit your college because home is going to get boring after the first week. Push through because it's only three months and you can make it.
Home sweet home, where the food is free and the beds are bigger. You miss it when you're gone, but kinda can't stand it when you're there. But we all know we are going to miss home as soon as we go back to college. So take the summer and run with it, because you're going miss this.
